JM: Jennifer, when did your interest in crafting start?

Jennifer: I have always been a crafty person and I believe I got it from my grandmother. She always baked, sewed clothing and made dolls and sold them at local flea markets. She would also make clothing for my barbies. I loved the fact that they were handmade and original so I started to hand sew some of my own.

I started creating bling about 2 years ago when I first discovered Swarovski and how beautiful it is. I started out doing pacifiers as keepsakes and soon after that I moved onto doing Converse and sunglasses. The shoes and the sunglasses became such a hit, I was often selling muliple pairs of them to just one customer at a time.

JM:How did you learn?

Jennifer:I pretty much have taught myself how to do everything I make. I mostly do everything free hand, including when I sew, I'm not very good at sticking to patterns.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

Jennifer: I started selling my designs on Ebay in January of 2005. I loved Ebay after I had found my wedding dress on there...yes, I hate to try clothes on! LOL!

I also sell on about 12 other websites including my own, www.babypeasandcarrots.com. But my site is not limited to my own designs, I've been working very hard over the past 3 months to get it stocked up with other designers. Many of them are work at home moms, some of them are from Ebay. I know how hard it can be to stay at home with your kids and try to make ends meet. I hope that by having them on my site I can help sell more of their items and support their dreams of being a stay at home mom as well as a designer.

JM: Do you remember the first item you sold on eBay?

Jennifer: Suprisingly I made $35 off of a bling pacifier with a firefly design on it.

JM: Where did come up with your name?

Jennifer:Over 10 years ago I started making hats for my daughter Paige to wear. She barely had hair and had a hat to match almost every outfit. She was soon known for her hats and people were asking me where I got them from. It made me realize that someday I wanted to make and sell my own designs and I always thought that peas and carrots would be such a cute name for them. Once I finally got around to designing again I added on baby to the peas and carrots.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

Jennifer:Currently I belong to Trendy Productions & Co. and SoBella. I love the girls in those groups, everyone is so much fun and they help me feel connected to the outside world. ;)

JM: What are your favorite materials to work with?

Jennifer: Everything! I am constantly wanting to make something new. But lately I'm finding that I'm getting addicted to fabric.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

Jennifer:I would love to learn how to screen print. The design possibilities are endless and looks like it would be a ton of fun!

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would that be?

Jennifer:I would love to visit Austrailia, Hawaii and Disney World.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides crafting?

Jennifer: I am getting back into sewing. I want to start designing clothing for children. I also make bibs, blankets, burp cloths and hair accessories.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

Jennifer:I just want to tell me husband how much I appreciate him. He has helped me remember that my dreams won't come true if I don't chase them. :)

Thanks so much for featuring me on Journal Modiste. There are so many amazing desigers that have been featured on here, I definitely feel honored.
