1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

I began sewing 2 years ago. My hubby Neal kept encouraging me to try my hand at sewing so for an early Xmas gift in 2002 he got me my first sewing machine. It sat around for a couple months before I got ambitious enough to do anything with it. When I finally did, I was clueless to say the least. Neal finally got tired of listening to me yell at the machine so he came over to thread it for me. (thank goodness one of us had taken home ec! hehe) After a couple patchwork pillows made from my girls baby clothing, I decided to try my luck at one of those pillow case dresses I had seen on Ebay. After that...I realized that I had found a creative "niche" that I never imagined I could ever have!

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

I sold a few of my designs on Ebay in the summer of 2003 but started listing regularly at the beginning of 2004. My main focus has been selling on Ebay but I will also begin listing on Blossom St. very soon.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

I sure do remember...and I have a picture! It was a chenille & vintage fabric halter style dress, pant & hat set. It received some (negative) attention from one of the Ebay boards (which I had no idea existed at the time). Well, it received over 500 hits & it sold for about $35... and I was THRILLED! I'd still like to thank that person who was bored enough to post a "special" thread about my listing on that board! hehehe

3. How did you decide upon your name .

Hmm, silly story but I wanted to find a really unique name that had some connection to my girls as they always have been & always will be my inspiration. Thanks to my good friend Caryn, we found a "tool" allowing you to come up with a unique name using other names (my girls). So...Bonna Suka it was!

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

Yes, I am a YaYa girl! After taking a break from the group scene I asked to join as one of my good friends had joined not too long before and had been bragging non stop about them! I was sooooo happy they accepted me! I really like the fact that every member of this group communicates daily with one another. There are no "lurkers" so that makes it easy to get to know each other very well & the group has a very comfortable atmosphere.

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I love, love, love to create girly floral sets! My original reason for this was because Ivy is such a tomboy, I had a hard time getting her in girly clothing unless she was modeling for me! hehe Now that I usually sent my sets out for pictures...I guess the style has stuck with me.

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers? Why?

I really like Robyn Pandolph, Jane Sassaman & Kaffe Fassett as of late. But if I see a print I can't resist...I'm game for any designer! :o)

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

I don't have one time I sew more than another. Just when I find a few extra moments in between teaching preschool, being a mommy & a wife. As for my sewing room.... the floor is covered with scraps of fabric & thread! I may be an unorganized sewer...but I can always find what I'm looking for in my "pile"! ;o)

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

Spending time with my girls & hubby, shopping, nature walks (we live in a beautiful area!) & just chilling out at home watching a good movie.

9.Anything else you would like to add?

First & for most, I'd like to thank my family who have all been so supportive (and patient) of my Ebay career. I couldn't do it without you all! I'd also like to thank Carrie, Madi & Emerson for all the awesome pictures you have provided for me! To all my YaYa Sisters...thank you for being such great friends & for welcoming me with open arms into your group. And thanks to JM for the BEST boutique/handcrafted info site there ever will be!
