JM: Canela, when did your interest in creating jewelry start?

CANELA: I would have to say it started when I was a child. I would tinker around with electrical wire and my mom;s old buttons to make charm bracelets and necklaces, I loved rocks and crystals and my parents were very supportive in helping me learn about them and jewelry making.

JM:How did you learn?

CANELA:I'm completely self taught. Most everything has been from trial and error. I read up where I need to, but hands on experience is always the best!

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

CANELA:I started selling in October of 2006. I sell in a few brick & mortar boutiques as well as e-bay.

JM: Do you remember the first item you sold on eBay?

CANELA: The first item I sold was a women's two strand blue and green crystal necklace all hand wired on sterling silver. It is still one of my very favorite designs. I think it sold for $56.00.

JM: Where did come up with your name?

CANELA: My name actually means Cinnamon, so it just seemed like a natural fit.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

CANELA: I am a very proud member of the PrimRoses Boutique group. I was asked to be a member when it was first formed. I already had a friendship developed with some of the girls so it was a perfect fit for me. We are a small group but very close nit. Each of the ladies is tremendously talented, and so sweet!

JM: What are your favorite materials to work with?

CANELA: Oh I love it all!! I am partial to silver so most everything is made with sterling silver. I also adore color. Crystal and glass lend such a variety of yummy colors to most of my designs.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

CANELA: I am currently teaching myself new metal smithing techniques including casting, and forging. I also am slowly learning lampworking. Learning new techniques is important because it opens up so many more design possibilities./p>

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would that be?

CANELA:I would love to tour all over Europe. There is so much culture and history in the ancient cities; I find them fascinating.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides making fabulous jewelry?

CANELA:I love just spending time at home with my wonderful husband, playing with our kids. I am also going to school working toward my Masters Degree so I can get certified as a Mid-Wife.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

CANELA:This really is an amazing honor! Thank you so much Amy for the opportunity to share! Thank you to my customers who often inspire my designs, and my husband who just smiles endearingly at me when I bring home another box of beads, and ask for a little more space in the room to store them. I would also like to invite everyone to check out the fabulously talented ladies of PrimRoses Boutique.

Do you have a question that you are dying to ask Canela? Comment about something she said or designed? Post it here and she will answer it!
