JM: DeAnna, When did you get started creating bags?

DEANNA: I started creating bags about 4 yrs ago after having our first child. Couldn't quite find the right bag that felt like "me" to carry all that baby stuff you need around to places.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

DEANNA: I started selling designs on Ebay about 2 or 3 yrs ago. I sell off my website and have been fortunate enough to be in some boutiques around California and a couple in New York. Before Ebay I was worked for Charles Schwab in San Francisco.

JM: Do you remember the first item you sold on eBay?

DEANNA:I believe the first bag I sold was a diaper bag for 29.99, I think.

JM: Where did come up with your name?

DEANNA: I thought it up at work, I wanted something that expressed classic designs, that were more vintage yet timeless, and couture because I was in love with luxury fabrics and crazy combinations that were not trendy!

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

DEANNA: I'm part of M2MA, made to match accessories. The girls were kind enough to invite me in! I feel so fortunate to be a part of this group. They are a sincere group of fun and caring girls. Always generous with anything and everything. I like that they all have their own creative flair. It's really inspiring! Besides, they are hilarious!

JM: What is your favorite type of bag to create? Why?

DEANNA: My favorite Bag......? I have 2. One is the retro 40's BowBag. It is so rich and unique looking, something you don't see around. Its ultra feminine, I like that about that era. Not an easy one to sew though, it takes quite a long time to put one together!

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

DEANNA: I'd like to learn a few more languages, I see that as a great advantage.

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

DEANNA: I've always wanted to travel to Egypt. My dream since childhood was to be an archaeologist!

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides creating?

DEANNA: LOVE antiquing, the thrill of the hunt! That's a little like archaeology right?? Antiquing and restoring is great fun. I also love teaching my sunday school.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

DEANNA: Creating anything is so much fun. I say seize your talent or sense of adventure in this area even if you don't think you'd be "that good". Sewing bags is my passion, especially the designing. I truly treasure textiles especially the vintage ones. So much that I interface every layer of fabric for longevity and practical use. So bags may have a few layers per fabric depending on the design.I'd hate to see such beautiful fabrics, rare from an era past, slapped together, used regularly and just fall apart or look "worn out". It takes extra time, and all that interfacing takes a lot of space, but its the little things that may not be seen that will make the bag appreciated as time goes by. Thanks!

Do you have a question that you are dying to ask DeAnna? Comment about something she said or designed? Post it here and she will answer it!
