Designer of the Week - Dandelions & Daisies

This week get to know Susan of Dandelions & Daisy's.

She lives in SLC Utah with her husband and two beautiful little girls (ages almost..5 and almost...2) who keep her in stitches with their goofiness! .

JM: Susan, when did your interest in creating jewelry start?

SUSAN: I started becoming interested in making jewelry about 10 years ago. I started by learning how to make a simple pair of earrings and it just went on from there.

JM:How did you learn?

SUSAN: I went to a local bead shop to have them teach me some basic techniques but most of what I have done is self taught.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

SUSAN: I started selling my designs on Ebay one year ago this month! I sell locally and take on custom orders from the internet.

JM: Do you remember the first item you sold on eBay?

SUSAN:The first creation I made for Ebay was called "Miracles".....a pearl and sterling necklace. I think it sold for maybe $19.99? I can't remember! LOL.

JM: Where did come up with your name?

SUSAN: Locally I have a photography business. I wanted a name that would be applicable to boys and girls so Dandelions & Daisies seemed to fit. So locally the business is Dandelions & Daisies Unique Photography and Boutique Jewelry :)

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

SUSAN: I belong to The Boutique Jaynes as well as Boutique Eden. . After launching with Boutique Eden which was a group of fresh new designers I felt like I could go out on a limb and see if The Jaynes would have me!! LOL. Once I "met" them I knew I had to be in that group! I love them because they are wacky and hilarious and so creative.....it has been a great match for me :)

JM: What are your favorite materials to work with?

SUSAN: I really have to feel a piece in order to finish it....so the materials have to be something I love, something I would wear. There are certain colors of beads that I am more drawn to than others, and I have to work with a high quality of materials to feel good about my creations :)

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

SUSAN: Oh my gosh I wish I could sew!!! I am so so so envious of all of these talented women I have met through Ebay that create these gorgeous outfits!! I have this creative side that can see exactly what I want in my head and to not be able to sit down and even thread the needle in my sewing machine properly drives me nuts!!! LOL

JM: Can you tell us about your first job? How much did you earn?

SUSAN: My first job was a nanny for a local family. I think I earned $65 a week for basically doing EVERYTHING.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides making fabulous jewelry?

SUSAN: I love photography! I also love to read and love music. Hanging out with my family is a favorite and I love my friends and our fun girls nites out! Gosh....do I sound boring? LOL

Most of all I love watching my kids do what they love the most. For Grace it is art and horses. For Christian it is pretending he is Darth Vader. lol I love it when they are being creative and having fun (and not fighting). I love watching my husband just be silly with my kids. He is a wonderful Dad (when there's no football on tv). :)

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

SUSAN: Hmmmmm just how much I have enjoyed the boutique community and how much I appreciate all of the great support from my peers and customers! And thanks so much for the opportunity to be a designer of the week on Jm :)
