JM: Shannon, when did your interest in painting start?

SHANNON: I have loved painting and drawing since I can remember. In elementary school I remember getting so excited when it was time for the "art cart" to come around to our classroom. In high school I took every art class that was available and by the time I was in college I was a graphic design major. When I reached my Junior year though I switched to art education. I just could not trade in my paint brush for a computer. I still like to dabble in design but my true passion is painting. As for fabric painting, I did some screen printing in high school, but just in the past 2 years did I discover the wonders of textile painting. It is so awesome to have your art work being worn and enjoyed by others.

JM: Are there other artists that inspire you??

SHANNON:There is one artist who's work as inspired me since high school. His name is Maxfield Parrish. I received a calender that featured his art as a gift and I fell in love with it. He painted realistic figures but yet placed them is mystical and magical settings. I can stare at his work for hours.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

SHANNON: I have only been selling on ebay for less than a year now. After the birth of my son Eian, I wanted to stay home with him while he was small so I started doing some different art for kids here and there. I started off painting wood furniture for children but I just love painting on canvas so I have slowly migrated back to wall art for children. I currently do not sell through any other places other than ebay but will probably start in the future.

JM: Do you remember the first item you sold on eBay?

SHANNON:The first piece of art that sold was a framed water color piece of a princess. I believe it sold for 30.00. I was so excited!

JM: Where did come up with your name?

SHANNON:Well, Farrell was my last name so I just came up with something short and simple. Farrell Design

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

SHANNON: I belong to 2 different groups. My main design group is boutique XOXO. I have been with them for a few months now. They are a wonderful group of women who I am very glad I have gotten to know.We are a small close knit group and I just love being Friends such talented women. I also belong to a very talented group of artisans called Boutique Kid Rooms. It is a group where we create art and decor for children's rooms.

JM: What are your favorite thing to paint?

SHANNON: Wow, that is a very tough question. I love to paint so many different things. If I have to pick though, I would say fairies. I am almost addicted to them. I love thinking of different themes for each fairy. I just love things that are mythical like fairies, mermaids, unicorns etc.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

SHANNON: That is a very easy question. Sewing! I can think of all of these dresses to paint on my fairies and I just want to be able to sew them into life! My mother tried to teach me to sew in high school but I remember telling her "why would I sew my clothes when I can just go to the store and buy them?" Teenagers can be such know it alls!.

JM: Can you tell us about your first job? How much did you earn?

SHANNON: My first job was working at Arby's when I was 15. I made 4.25 and hour. Being the oldest of 6 kids meant if you could not buy it for yourself you were not going to get it! So I loved my job (I know I am a weirdo). I was even employee of the month and got my name on a plaque on the wall. I was so darn proud!

I remember one day while working a very slow lunch shift this super handsome construction worker came in and was flirting with me. He asked if he could call back his own order on the microphone. I said he could but he jumped over the counter and asked to wear my Arbys visor as well. I was too shy to tell him he was going to get me in trouble so I just let him and needless to say my boss was not too happy with me that day.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides painting?

SHANNON: I enjoy photography, logo design, reading, and listening to music. I love discovering new musicians and adding to my cd collection. I also enjoy playing with my son Eian. He is the light of my life.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

SHANNON: I would like to thank all of the wonderful people that I have met since starting to sell on ebay. I have the most wonderful customers whose compliments have really made my day. I would also like to thank Journal Modiste for featuring me. I love this website and all the wonderful talent it show cases.
