JM: Ashley, when did your interest in creating jewelry start?

ASHLEY: I became interested in creating jewelry when I strung a painted noodle onto a strand of yarn in kindergarten...just kidding! I actually started making jewelry when my son was a baby. I bought a large package of cheap glass beads from Michaels Arts and Crafts...I recently passed those beads down to my daughter...she LOVES to sit by my side as I create new pieces and create her own!

JM: How did you learn?

ASHLEY: I learned to design jewelry through trial and error. I went through a ton of wire when I first taught myself to wire wrap...I would definitely suggest using base metal wire when learning wire work! (I learned the hard way and wasted a pretty penny using sterling wire...oops!) My first set of jewelry tools was my husbands Craftsman pliers set... we still have those tools. Unfortunately, I dulled them all.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

ASHLEY:I began to sell on Ebay about 2 years ago. I sell jewelry on my site infullbloom-designs.com and will also share a Waterfront Shoppe on Blossom Street with Andrea of Fleur L'enfant.

JM: Do you remember the first item you sold on eBay?

ASHLEY:The first piece of jewelry I sold on Ebay was a gorgeous striated Agate and Bali silver necklace. It sold for around 35 dollars to a lady named Barbara. After she received the piece, she mailed me a handwritten thank-you note. It really made me feel like I actually had talent and was going down the right path!

JM: Where did come up with your name?

ASHLEY: In Full Bloom came about because I was ready for a change...a new beginning in my life ... that is what In Full Bloom means to me.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

ASHLEY: I am a member of an incredible group called theVIOLETS. Harmony of Harmony_Wear invited me to join in the Spring of '06. This group of girls is very special to me! I love that we are small and feel very fortunate to be a part of such a supportive group!

JM: What are your favorite materials to work with?

ASHLEY: OOH! I am obsessed with semi-precious gemstones, Swarovski crystals and was recently turned onto little funky wool fiber flowers.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

ASHLEY: I suppose if I had the opportunity to study and learn a new skill it would be Metalsmithing. Metalsmithing is a skill that I am interested in because it would allow me to expand my ability to create.

JM: Can you tell us about your first job? How much did you earn?

My first job was when I was 17. I am a manicurist and worked in a midtown Memphis salon called Dabbles. I worked on commission during that time. I think I made an average of about 200 dollars a week. On Halloween of 1996 a couple of the male stylists took me shopping to all of the thrift stores and dressed me up as a pregnant teenage prom queen! They did my hair, make-up....they even gave me a pregnant belly...I was the talk of the shop for weeks! I still cannot believe that I allowed them to do that!

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides making fabulous jewelry?

ASHLEY:Besides designing jewelry, I enjoy being a Mom (of course), cooking, hanging out with my three sisters, traveling and being outdoors.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

ASHLEY: Thanks so much to all who have supported me and encouraged me throughout my journey!

...and a special thank-you to Journal Modiste for featuring me and supporting independent designers!
