1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

I took home ec. In 8th grade and failed miserably, I hated the sewing machine, couldn't make a windsock and gave up, But I tried desperately to go to fashion design school out of HS but couldn't afford it and couldn't get a loan (somethings wrong with our system here). A couple of years ago I had the chance to work PT and be a SAHM and I jumped at it. I fell in love with all the boutique custom made clothing on Ebay. I had always dreamed of designing my own clothes so I researched sewing machines, bought one (hey this thing is computerized, now computers I can do!!!) a little over 2 yrs. ago and have been sewing since. I'm completely self taught but have a wonderful support system of friends and family who help me with the hard stuff!!

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

I started selling on ebay 2 yrs ago. I recently took a break from selling to have my second baby and we also sold our house and moved into a new house, but now I'm back into the swing of things. I am a Training Facilitator for a company out of Denver Colorado. I travel the United States giving Leadership seminars for Large and Small Corporations. www.pathwaystoleadership.com I'm now in the process of opening my own online boutique www.heygorgeousbaby.com that will open late August early September. It will start out small carrying specific boutique brands and hopefully will grow into an actual store front. I will sell some of my own designs in my boutique but not limited to.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

The very first outfit I auctioned on ebay was a complete labor of love, it was made from all vintage clothing and hankies given to me by my grandmother, I set the reserve so high hoping it wouldn't sell but if it did I wouldn't feel completely bad, LOL. It didn't thank god, but later I sold it to a friend, speaking of I need to see if I can get that back!! Otherwise the first actual outfit I sold on ebay, no pictures I destroyed the evidence, haha, only because it was a pair of Dorothy the Dinosaur overalls, My daughter was totally into the Wiggles at the time and they sold for $66. I was so estactic and I got a few custom orders out of it but also learned quickly that character oalls sell well but can also get your auctions cancelled.

3. How did you decide upon your name?

When my oldest daughter Jolie was just starting to pull herself up to stand she would walk around the furniture trying to get to mommy, and I would always say "Hey Gorgeous" and she would smile big, and when I was looking for a name, I wanted something unique and something that personified Jolie, It suddenly hit me one day, that's it, perfect! And I've loved it ever since.

Now that I've decided to go ahead and open my own boutique, I wanted Hey Gorgeous Baby for my online boutique and store front and am changing my own clothing line to Scary Hair (clothes that make you look great even on the worst hair days!). Scary Hair? you say. . . how did you ever come up with that? Well it actually has a lot of sentimental value to me. I also wanted something completely different and unique, not necessarily something you would tie to childrens boutique clothing. The phrase was actually coined by my husband Casey. Since Jolie was 2, when she would wake up in the morning and come into the living room, with her hair all wigged out, Casey would say Good Morning Scary Hair. And of course the name caught on and Saturday mornings it would be Casey and Jolie on the couch making fun of Mom's Scary Hair when she crawled out of bed. Now if Jolie thinks her hair is messy she say "Mom do I have scary hair?" and with a yes or a no she knows whether or not she needs to brush her hair!!

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

I'm the happy new member of the Boutique Queen Bees, These fabulously talented ladies took the leap of faith and brought me aboard!! A wonderful group brought together by friends and family first, and it doesnt hurt to have alot of creative talent either! Many members have their own websites and work directly from those that keep them very busy!! So starting this week you will be able to search my auctions on Ebay by typing in Boutique Queens.

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

Wow, what a question, my favorite thing is all the ideas in my head that I cant seem to put into reality, haha, I love it all. I would probably have to say overalls though, the themes can be so array and fun. The best is creating one of a kind outfits, you'll never do it again, you know its unique and to me that makes it priceless. I'm definitely inspired by vintage clothing, and found new inspiration in Miss Carrie Bradshaw, FINALLY someone telling me I'm not a freak because of my different taste then the norm!!! THANKYOU!!!!!

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

I love Tulle, it can be girly, chic, and punk rock all at the same time! You will see lots of tulle in my designs, I also love polkadots, they are my fav, as well as themed prints such as Micheal Miller and Alexander Henry, I have the cutest vintage Little Red Riding Hood fabric from Alexander Henry, but I've only created one outfit of it cause it is out of print and I'm afraid to let go of it!!!!

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

Oh my gosh, just ask my husband. Hes always complaining of picking up thread all over the house, the dog eats it and throws it up(yes I know this is gross) the kids play in it, so needless to say when we bought our new house I now have a designated sewing area with nice shelving and a table and drawers and cupboards, but I have three outfits worth of fabric and notions laying all over it piled high and on the floor around it!!!! If it isn't messy I'm not working!!! When I really get on a roll I stay up all night, otherwise I try to sew when my daughter is napping (far and few in between, as we speak Lara just woke up!) and sew on Saturday mornings, when Casey (my husband) feels its his duty to watch and play with the girls! Otherwise I pull all nighters! Aaarrgghh, but not for too much longer, I'm going to fix my procrastination problem, haha.

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

I'm a complete Harry Potter freak!!! I'm currently reading all the HP books again before the 6th one comes out, this will be my 6th time through the first 5. I also read tons of fanfiction at fictionalley (all harry potter related) Needless to say if we ever have a boy his name will be Harry. (don't tell my husband though, luckily Harold is a family name so that is how I'm getting away with it!!) . ! Of course my daughters and getting involved with them and in school is a huge part of my life. I also grew up in rodeo and have owned and ridden horses all my life. In grew up in the wonderful Pacific Northwest and when I moved to Nebraska I had to sell my horses because I couldn't afford to bring them with me, but My plan is to have horses again and by Jolie's 4th birthday party have a pony for her!!!!

Anything else you would like to add?

I just think that rhis site is awesome! Great job. I've met so many amazing people on ebay and seen so many amazing designers. Thank you so much for putting these hard working ladies in the spotlight!!
