JM: When did you get started crocheting?

JENNIFER: I remember that my maternal grandmother taught me the basics. I could do a chain stitch and work in a circle, but other than that, I had no idea how to crochet. Then, when I was in high school, I picked up a book on crochet and taught myself.

JM: What are your favorite types of yarn to work with?

JENNIFER: I love to work with mercerized cottons and anything EXPENSIVE!

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

JENNIFER: I started selling my creations on eBay almost 2 years ago. I have sold items to a few boutiques in NYC and North Carolina. I also sell from my Blossom Street Waterfront Shoppe, etsy, and La Bonne Vie Bebe.

What did you do before eBay?

JENNIFER: I was a disgruntled US Postal employee for 10 years. LOL!

JM: Do you remember the first item you sold on eBay? How much did it sell for?

JENNIFER:One of the first sets I sold on eBay was a pair of tropical print pants and a crocheted halter and hat. It sold for about $30.

JM: How did come up with your name, Jaybird Designs?

JENNIFER: Well, Jennifer was a VERY popular name in my generation, so I always had nicknames to tell me apart. Most of my life I was called J.J., but I had a few relatives that called me Jaybird. I always liked that nickname and thought it would make a great business name.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

JENNIFER: I currently belong to Boutique InVogue . It was recently formed by some friends of mine from a former group. I love these girls like family, so when they asked me to join….I jumped right in. I also belong to a few fiber artist groups; Candy Crochet and Boutique Hooks and Needles.

JM: What is your favorite thing to create?

JENNIFER:My favorite thing to create right now is felted hats! I love seeing how the wool yarn changes and the unique looks I can make with it.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

JENNIFER: I would like to be a better painter. When I was a child, I took a lot of professional art lessons and was actually a very good artist. I eventually stopped drawing and painting and would love to pick it up again. But I am VERY rusty!

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

JENNIFER: I want to go somewhere with clear blue/green water and white sandy beaches! OH….. and a cute cabana boy to bring me drinks!

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides creating?

JENNIFER: I enjoy sewing, baking, and being with my wonderful friends and family!

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

JENNIFER: Thanks Amy for this wonderful opportunity!! And I’d like to say HI!!! to all my wonderful boutique friends!
