Designer of the Week - Joyfully Crafted

This week get to know Tammy of Joyfully Crafted.

"My name is Tammy, but I am not the only person behind Joyfully Crafted. I have a wonderful husband Chris and we have two girls. Christina is 12 years old and Rachel is 7 years old."

"I live in Southern New Jersey. People make fun of N.J. but it really is a great place to live. We are just a short drive to the Jersey shore, Pocono mountains, historic Philadelphia, New York city and many more wonderful places to visit. "

JM: Tammy, when did your interest in creating jewelry start?

Tammy: Well my oldest wanted to wear these big earrings and I said no way. It was summer time so we headed off to the craft store to buy materials to make some earrings. I can picture them now and they were so not professional, but I thought they were the best. I was so excited I started making a few things for gifts.

JM:How did you learn?

Tammy: I read and studied magazines, books, and information on the interenet. I have never taken a class, but I have purchased an ebook on wire weaving. I loved learning skills from a How to ebook tutorial. I wrote an ebook on soldering pendants and it is really successful. I am writing another ebook and I will be finished soon. I belong to a few beading groups and people are so wonderful anwering questions, exchanging information about their experience, and especially their words of encouragement. I really try to give back whenever I can because I have learned so many tips like how to use a tumbler.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

Tammy: I had to go look and it was February 2005. I sell mostly at craft shows. I also sell on my website, wholesale, at home jewelry shows, on Etsy, and Ebay. I debut my new designs on Etsy

JM: Do you remember the first item you sold on eBay?

Tammy: No, I do not remember. My memory storage gets recycled often.

JM: Where did come up with your name?

Tammy: The whole craft business really has been a blessing from God in so many ways. I really wanted to acknowledge that in my business name. We were reading 1 Thessalonians 5:16 Be joyful always, so Joyfully Crafted was created.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

Tammy: I am a memebr of Custom Boutique Designs and occasionaly I am invited to guest with some wonderful design groups.

JM: What are your favorite materials to work with?

Tammy: I love to work with real gemstones, pearls, and silver.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

Tammy:I just purchased all the tools and supplies for silver soldering. I am very excited to learn and practice, because I am always trying to improve my skills. I want to take my designs to the next level. I have enjoyed learning to saw, file, and rivet pieces of copper and sterling silver sheet. Working with metal has been so much fun and the most rewarding. So to learn silver soldering will give me so many more creative abilities.

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would that be?

Tammy:My husband and I talk often talk about traveling to Hawaii.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides making fabulous jewelry?

Tammy: We are known to be the "day trippers" If we can drive there and back in one day we will. We just love to go to the shore for the day. We are not very scheduled so we might leave for the beach by noon and that is just fine. We will pack a lunch and than maybe stop for dinner and/or ice cream. Oh we love ice cream also. We have been known to drive almost two hours for a new or special ice cream shop. We always do everything as a family. Thankfully our kids love to drive in the car while we take the long scenic route. We go for drives year around, but the summer is the best time.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

Tammy: I would like to say thank you Amy for the wonderful opportunity to share my life with the readers of Journal Modiste. I am very thankful to all my customers. I would also like to express my love and appreciation for my family. My husband who has supported me and sets up and breaks down for me at every craft show. My young daughter who loves to go to my craft shows especailly when they are at the beach. My oldest who really enjoys helping me and now is my apprentice.
