JM: When did you get started sewing and creating?
PATRICIA:
I have always been
creative and as a kid did tons of crafts. I was never really inspired by sewing
even through I took it in school. I mean, who wants to make a butcher's apron! lol.
I didn't really become sewing obsessed until I was 21. I had some good friends in
design school and I thought, 'Now that's pretty cool!', so I got a machine and
taught myself to sew.
JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?
PATRICIA:I started selling on Ebay about a year ago. I will have my website up and running in the next couple of weeks, www.lilyssuitcase.ca.
JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?
PATRICIA: The first outfit I sold was a Valentines outfit that sold for around $35. Wow, have I learned ALOT since then!
JM: How did come up with your name, Lily's Suitcase?
PATRICIA:
I have a bit of a thing for vintage
suitcases, and have everything from Lego to sewing trims stored in them. And Lily, well, she's a crazy black and white cat!
JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?
PATRICIA: I am proud to be a Wish girl. I applied in the late summer and they were gracious enough to let me in! lol. The girls at WISH are my friends and confidents. I trust their opinions and advice, and they are the kind of gals that would do anything for you.
JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?
PATRICIA: I love to create anything with a vintage touch. I love anything old. They just have a great feeling to them. I think I was born in the wrong era.
JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?
PATRICIA: I am always learning new things. I am taking ski lessons right now so that I can try to keep up with my kids. lol. I think leaning new skills is important for personal growth.
JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
PATRICIA:
Maybe Paris to the flea markets
there. Or Spain. I?ve always liked the idea of Spain.
JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?
PATRICIA: Spending time with my family, gardening, skiiing, hiking, and treasure hunting in thrift and antique stores.
JM: Anything else you would like to add?
PATRICIA:I just wanted to say thanks to my customers for allowing me to be at home with my kids and do something I love doing! And thanks to Journale Modiste for having me!
