Designer of the Week - Little Labyrinth

This week meet Amanda of Little Labyrinth. She lives in Sydney, Australia with and four gorgeous kids. Jakob, 7, Madison 4, Isaiah 2, and Lilly who is 8 months old.

See Amanda's current Etsy auctions: Little Labyrinth

JM: When did you get started knitting?

AMANDA: I remember my Nan teaching me when I was really quite little. It was with some really teeny tiny metal needles and some squeaky pink acrylic yarn that I just HAD to have. I think I got through about an inch worth of a scarf for a doll before I got bored and gave up. She tried to teach me again numerous times as I was growing up - I always had to have pink yarn - but it never really stuck. I picked up a book and taught myself when I was pregnant with Lilly (my youngest) and the motivation of having a new tiny person to knit for really pushed me to keep at it until I 'got it'. I haven't stopped since.

JM: What are your favorite types of yarn to work with?

AMANDA: Oooh alpaca/wool and silk/wool blends for sure. And merino! Actually I pretty much like anything natural. I'm a big fan of natural fibers, especially when it comes to things sitting right next to your little one's skin. Natural fibers breathe better and generally feel better too.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on Etsy?

AMANDA: I sell my designs on ETSY. I started selling about 5 months ago now.

What did you do before Etsy?

AMANDA: Kept everything for myself, hehe.

JM: Do you remember the first item you sold on Etsy? How much did it sell for?

AMANDA:The first hat I sold was a long stripey stocking style cap for a baby. It sold for $30 and I was SO excited.

JM: How did come up with your name, Little Labyrinth?

AMANDA: Well my favourite ever movie is The Labyrinth, and I wanted to do something with Labyrinth in the name. It just made sense to me to put Labyrinth together with Little since I make things for little people.

JM: What is your favorite thing to create?

AMANDA:Hats! I just love a baby in a cute little hat. I'm a photographer, and my favourite thing to do is stick a quirky/cute little hat on a kids head. So of course that's what I like to make :)

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

AMANDA: Sewing! Oh man I would love to be better at sewing. The designs the boutique girls come up with make me so envious. I wish I could make ruffles and layers and twirly things for my girls. I know the basics, but that's about all.

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

AMANDA: Oooh all around Europe. I'd love to spend times looking at old castles and ruins and art galleries and... just a whole different landscape and culture would be incredible to see, too.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides creating?

AMANDA: Photography, reading, various types of art. If I'm not knitting or taking photographs, you can generally find me with my kids, covered in paint. We are BIG fans of being creative in this house.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

AMANDA: I would love to say THANK YOU to all of the wonderful people who have bought my designs. You guys have been wonderful to work with and I'm so thankful that I get to do what I love and have others love it too.

Do you have a question that you are dying to ask Amanda? Comment about something she said or designed? Post it here and she will answer it!
