JM: DEANNA, when did you get started sewing and creating?

DEANNA: Well, I come from a family of amazingly creative women ~ my great grandma used to design and put together dresses Sunday morning for her girls to wear to church! My mother was a home ec teacher, so you can say I was pretty much destined to sew. I have created things for as long as I can remember, it's sort of what we do! lol

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

DEANNA: I began selling my designs on eBay in 2001. I have shops in Scottsdale, Mesa and Del Mar that I work closely with as well as a handful of celeb wives in my area that I do custom work for. I also do some selling through my website, http://theluckyprincess.com/. Before eBay I was an NBA dancer and going to school for a degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. ?Quite a change from where I'm at now!

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

DEANNA: One of the first sets that I can remember was a little giraffe tie back top and simple white shorts, I think it sold for about $30 and I was ecstatic!

JM: How did come up with your name, The Lucky Princess?

DEANNA:My last name is Lucky and I started formally selling after my daughter was born?, she was my inspiration and so I became "The Lucky Princess".

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

DEANNA: Yes, I have been with the YaYas for over 2 years. A few weeks after they had first formed, they wrote me and asked me if I had ever thought of being in a group ~ I had never even talked to another designer before then and I was so intimidated by the whole group thing, but I said yes and it was the best decision I have ever made! I feel like our group has such chemistry and we all are genuinely happy for each others successes and I just love that.

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

DEANNA: Oh gosh?my favorite aspect of creating is to collaborate with a customer and have them be absolutely thrilled when they see it. As far as sewing goes, I have to say that bags are probably my favorite thing to create; they are one size fits all and can really make a statement about a person.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

DEANNA:I would like to become better at digitizing embroidery. On Friday mornings I go down to the embroidery shop and sit with the senior club and learn about digitizing and it is a blast! I think it would enhance my clothing and would be able to expand my business into creating and digitizing logos for companies.

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

Paris!

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

DEANNA: I love spending time with my girls, dolling them up and savoring every minute while they are young, then of course my favorite thing to do is spend time with my amazing husband.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

DEANNA: An enormous "thank you!" to all who have supported me throughout this journey ~ I have such wonderful friends and customers who allow me to enjoy my work and I am so very thankful for them!

Hi i Can't sew. I have tried on my own with a pattern but it is not pretty LOL. I want to ask you how you learned to sew. Also can you give me some ideas as to where i can learn. I am very creative and i now have a baby girl. I would love nothing more than to cloth her in things i have made. Thank you for you time and help.
