JM: Bobbie Jo, when did your interest in creating jewelry start?

BOBBIE JO: I have been a crafter all of my life. I began on eBay as a children's clothing designer. I have always loved head-to-toe looks with matching accessories to complete the outfits. I was having trouble finding jewelry and hairbow designers that I could rely on to coordinate with me so I decided to learn to do everything myself. I picked up my first beads and I was immediately HOOKED! I now create hairbows, beaded headbands, beaded and fringe barrettes, necklaces, beaded and fringe bracelets, beaded ponyOs, flip-flops, and occasionally children's clothing.

JM:How did you learn?

BOBBIE JO: I started with very simple pieces. I love learning new techniques and I am willing to try new things. I have a passion for fringe and bright colors! I also LOVE for clients to send me photos of their clothing so that I can match their accessories perfectly.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

BOBBIE JO: I started selling my clothing designs on eBay 2 years ago. I have been selling my jewelry creations for about 5 months. I sell a few things locally but the majority of my sales come from eBay.

JM: Do you remember the first item you sold on eBay?

BOBBIE JO:The first thing I ever sold on Ebay was a pair of Girly Froggy Overalls with an adorable lipstick-clad frog on the bib and ruffles across the seat and the word "CROAK." I actually sold a couple of pairs of them. How much did it sell for? They sold for $39.99 and I was thrilled!

JM: Where did come up with your name?

BOBBIE JO: I love my small, quaint, hometown, Magnolia. I was thinking about how sweet is was to live here, thus the name, Sweet*Magnolia*Boutique!

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

BOBBIE JO: I belong to The Peanut Gallery Boutique, The Bead Hive, and Oilily Princess & Company. I admired the work of the designers in The Peanut Gallery Boutique. I submitted my information to them and I was invited to join. They are a very talented group of ladies. I also received invitations from friends to join BHV. I have a client that contacted me about making custom jewelry to match her daughter's birthday dress. It just happened to be an Oilily dress. When she received her jewelry, she invited me to join OP&CO so that I could provide custom made-to-match Oilily accessories for the group and others on eBay.

I love The Peanut Gallery Boutique because of the great members, the advanced planning and the organization. Everything runs very smoothly. I love CBD and BHV because they are very informative and a great place to meet fellow designers.

JM: What are your favorite materials to work with?

BOBBIE JO: I haven't met too many beads that I didn't love, but my favorites are lucite flower beads, Swarovski crystal beads and pearls, Catseye beads, and polymer clay beads.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

BOBBIE JO: I would love to learn how to make polymer clay beads. I love to use them in my designs and I think it would be fun to have this creative outlet as well.

JM: Can you tell us about your first job? How much did you earn?

BOBBIE JO: I started my first job was I turned 15. I worked at the local Dairy Queen. I earned minimum wage which at the time was 4.00/hr. Did I just reveal my age??? LOL

I noticed that every time I worked the owners' son was always there. I thought that he just worked alot. I found out later he NEVER worked except for when I was there. He asked me out the first week and as of April 20th, we have been married for 22 years! I always said that the job didn't pay much, but had excellent benefits! LOL

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides making fabulous jewelry?

BOBBIE JO: I enjoy spending time with my husband and children. We love to go to the mountains and go camping. I also love shopping and spending time with friends.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

BOBBIE JO: Thank you so much for the opportunity to introduce myself. It has been a priviledge and a pleasure.

Patty, Thanks so much for the compliment! I try to read about jewelry design, watch any program I can find, and ask questions. I am usually pretty good at seeing something and then working until I figure out how to do it. Good luck to you too! Bobbie Jo
