JM: Jennifer, when did you get started sewing and creating?

JENNIFER: I starting leaning to sew when I took a fashion design class in high school. They called it fashion design, but really it was just sewing. I took to it very well, and ended up making almost all of my formal dresses during my high school years. I would consider myself half school taught and half self taught.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

JENNIFER: I sold my first outfit on eBay in February 2005, I believe. I sold a little on eBay before that, but mainly I bought for my kids. I don't currently sell anywhere else other than eBay, but I will sell on I am fortunate enough to know the owner and design liasion there, and I was also lucky enough to have a Holiday design of mine modeled by my daughter appear in their first advertisement!

JM: What did you do before eBay?

JENNIFER:Before I started ebaying I was and still am a stay at home mom. Before I had children I was a college student. I have a college degree in Liberal Studies.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

JENNIFER: It was a simple ruffle tank/ Capri set, and I believe it sold for $41.00. I was really pleased!

JM: Where did come up with your name, Pouty Princess?

JENNIFER: My daughter Natalie was a very crabby baby when she was a little baby, and I liked to call her my pouty princess, so it just stuck when it came time to decide on a design name. Luckily she grew out of that phase pretty fast and it a complete joy now!

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

JENNIFER: I am not currently in an exclusive design group, but I am a member of Boutique Gypsies. We are made up of independent members and members of several different design group, we come together about every month to launch together! They are a fabulous group of women and I am honored to be among them!

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

JENNIFER: My favorite thing to create are girly skirts and dresses! I have always been a fan of all things girly, so I think that shows in my clothing. I also love vintage inspired designs and fabrics, mainly 40's/ 50's vintage styles.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

JENNIFER: I am currently trying to improve my photography skills. I just love photographing my children and I cherish the special images I capture of them. I would love to learn as much as I can about photography, and especially children's photography.

JM: Can you tell us about your first job? How much did you earn?

JENNIFER: My first job was at a flower store near my house when I was in high school. I just loved working there. It always had this great fresh flower smell that I loved. I earned 5.50 an hour I think, I actually can't remember exactly how much, but it was about that. I used to get a lot of men coming it who had forgot and important anniversary or birthday. We would always bet each other which customer was the forgetful husband, boyfriend, whatever.

JM: So JENNIFER, what other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

JENNIFER: I love to spend time with my family. I enjoy reading books and magazines. We love to swim in our pool in the summer. I also enjoy several crafts such as crochet, needlepoint and scrap booking.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

JENNIFER: I just wanted to thank Journal Modiste for interviewing me and being such a great source of information for the children's boutique community!
