1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

When I was 10 years old my Daddy bought me my first machine for my birthday. My step-mom helped me make an apron that summer and then the machine stayed mostly hidden in my closet until I got married and brought it out to use for some home decorating projects. I've always been pretty crafty and once I had children I started making Halloween costumes each year and then it just sort of snowballed into a full time desire to sew. I did take a home economics course in middle school but other then that teaching I've mostly taught myself.

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

I first started selling my original designs on eBay in the fall of 2002. My focus most recently has been on marketing my PrettyMat's. The doors to my website have finally opened and the site is currently dedicated to the nap mats with a link to my custom clothing on eBay. I am also working on getting the PrettyMat's into several local boutiques. My website is In addition to eBay I am also a seller at Blossom Street. Prior to selling my clothing designs on eBay, I enjoyed doing craft shows featuring several hand painted wooden and seasonal products.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

What was it and what did it sell for? I DO remember my first outfit. It was a 2 piece set with a reversible top. I can't remember what it sold for but I remember the wonderful feeling of having it sell and was soon on my way to making my next outfit.

3. How did you decide upon your name?

I have a great group of friends that helped me come up with my name. At the time I had to gently encourage Sadie to model my sets for me so I could get pictures. That "encouragement" was really just me bribing her with a sucker in exchange for a few quick photos. LOL One of the names my friends and I came up with was Pretty Please With Sugar On Top and seeing as how I had to ask Sadie "Pretty Please" would she model for me and I'd provide her "sugar on top" (a sucker), that name just seemed to fit and was the overwhelming favorite. I've shortened it to Pretty Please but use the full name in my logo.

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

I have been a very proud member of the PinPalGals since March of this year. Although I have been sewing and selling my designs since 2002, I hadn't ever given it more time then a simple hobby would deserve. Earlier this year I decided to take my business to the next level and I hoped that joining a group would give me the support that I needed to do just that. It's given me that and so much more. I've truly learned so much from all my fellow "gals" and consider them all among my greatest friends although we've never met in person. I love that our group is made up of so many different ladies who sew for different reasons ranging from just having a creative outlet to really working a full time business.

While we do have monthly launches, there is no pressure to participate and also no strict guidelines on how much we are able to list. I especially love that aspect of my group since I have 4 kids at home during the summer and can't sew nearly as much as I'd like to.

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I'd have to say that I don't have just one favorite thing to create. Many of my designs are one of a kind because I get so anxious to move onto something new. That something new might range from working with new fabrics, designing a new outfit, doing some appliqué, or developing a new product for my website. I love the design aspect, picking out fabrics and visualizing what it will become. It never ceases to amaze me that what starts out as just a piece of fabric can then just come to life in so many ways when an outfit is created using it.

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

If there were a 12-step program for people who bought too much fabric I would be a member! I truly love so many different types of fabrics. I love all the different textures and patterns that are currently available as well as all the coordinating lines. I don't think I've ever seen a pattern by Alexander Henry or Michael Miller that I didn't just adore.

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

I sew throughout the day and evening, when ever I'm able to get a spare few minutes. During the school year I am able to get much more done during the day so my evenings are free for the family and all of our activities. I'm FAR from neat when it comes to sewing. I just took over the guest room downstairs and that will be my studio now. So, I'm getting better but I could desperately use some help organizing my fabric stash that seems to overflow from cabinets in 5 different rooms in the house!

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

My family keeps me very busy and although I'm often overwhelmed with all we have going on, I can't imagine my life without each and every one of them in it! I am what some would call a very crafty person and am almost always working one several different projects at one time. That's not to say I ever actually finish those projects though! I love to paint, cross stitch, do hand embroidery, scrapbook, and do home décor just to name a few things. I also really enjoy a good book.
