1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

Well, I grew up with my Mom's sewing machine humming in the background. However, when she tried to teach me to sew when I was a teenager, I had absolutely no interest in it. I think I make a few mini skirts with elastic waistbands. When I got married, I did buy a sewing machine to make a few pillows and valances, but it mostly sat in my closet. Then, when I had my little girl I took my sewing machine out of the closet and started making her little things (like blankies and pillows) and slowly moved onto clothing. My mom was more than happy to help me master a few techniques in those early days, but now it seems like I'm teaching her a few tricks, lol.

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where?

I started selling on ebay about 3 years ago. I recently took a little time off from ebay to focus on the wholesale division of our business. In 2004, we sold our spring/summer 2005 line at the Children's Market in Atlanta under a sales rep. Right now our spring/summer line can be seen at several boutiques across the southeast, as well as on our web site ( http://www.sarahsamantha.com ), and soon on http://www.pictureperfecthairbows.com.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

Gosh yes! It was a little pair of overalls made out of pansy fabric with silk pansies attached at the waistline with glass bead centers. I think it sold for $40.00 and I was sooooo excited.

3. How did you decide upon your name?

Well, it's not very original, but it's my daughter's name. I wanted a name that translated my style, which is very flowery and southern. So, Sarah Samantha just seemed like a natural choice.

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

Yes, I belong to the Stitchinchicks. I was originally a member a long time ago and when I came back to the "ebay world", I rejoined. All of the ladies in there are so extremely talented and supportive of each other. It's very much an extended family.

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I love to create anything, but I mostly try to design things that I would let my daughter wear. Why would I expect someone else to buy it if I wouldn't buy it myself? We're very casual here in Georgia, so I try to design girly, versatile things that are dressy enough to wear to a special occasion, but durable enough to wear to pre-school. I like to describe our style as "elegant playwear".

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

I love anything vintage or at least "vintage inspired". I find myself drawn to florals, stripes, polka dots, and toiles. Of course, I love Robyn Pandolph and I really like Michael Miller's and Alexander Henry's retro children's prints.

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

I have a sewing room in an upstairs bedroom. I would like to think I am neat and organized and I do have the best of intensions. I have baskets and cute little containers filled with buttons and threads and my fabric is folded and stacked on shelves. Then, when I start sewing, fabric and thread start flying-lol. Sometimes, I even have a trail of thread and sewing fuzzies that follow me around the house.

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

Are there other things to do besides sew? Just kidding! I like to read and garden. Don't tell my husband, but I secretly like to clean too. If he knew he might make me clean more often, when I'd rather be sewing.

Anything else you would like to add?

Thank you to all of my wonderful customers and to the ebay community for welcoming me back with open arms. Also, thank you to all of the chicks for all of your support and continued inspiration.
