JM: Jennifer, when did your interest in creating jewelry start?

JENNIFER: I became interested in designing jewelry about 5 1/2 years ago when I saw a friend with a gorgeous crystal and silver beaded bracelet. I searched all over to find something similar but couldn't find anything that was exactly what I wanted to I bought some beads and a book and made my own.

JM:How did you learn?

JENNIFER:I am primarily self taught. In the begining I bought every jewerly technique book I could get my hands on. I've also taken a few classes from a local bead store.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

JENNIFER: I started selling on eBay in September 2005. I also sell on Blossom Street and off eBay to friends and relatives. I have a website in the planning stages but I have been so busy with eBay that I haven't been able to finish it.

JM: Do you remember the first item you sold on eBay?

JENNIFER:I sold my first two pieces on eBay together. One was a black and silver hand sewn fringe bracelet and the other was a pink, orange and green hand sewn fringe bracelet, each were adult sized and sold for $25.00.

JM: Where did come up with your name?

JENNIFER: I sort of stumbled on the name Shinebeads. My husband and I were brainstorming one night and Shinebeads was one of the possiblities we came up with and after much trial and error this name stuck.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

JENNIFER: I belong to theBLVD. design group. I started with theBLVD during their debut launch. My friend Alison of FiveBlessedBows introduced me to the group and after going through an application process I was in. I just joined Boutique Icing at the beginning of May 2006. I particpated in a guest launch with them as Christi of Moppetclosets partner and was asked to join at the conclusion of the launch. I love both of these groups because everyone is so dedicated to making high quality original items. We really strive to help one another creatively and push each other forward to greater success.

JM: What are your favorite materials to work with?

JENNIFER:I love working with lampwork beads and Swaroski crystals. Both are so versitle and I love the unique nature of hand made beads.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

JENNIFER: I would love to learn how to make hand soldered art glass pendants and charms. I would like to learn these because I like the flexibility of the material. Each piece can be re-invented to suit the style of jewelry being made.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides making fabulous jewelry?

JENNIFER: I love creating in any way. I am a middle school art teacher so I spend a lot of my non-jewelry making time at school experimenting with different materials, portrait drawing is by far my favorite. I am also an avid reader. I also have a secret addiction to video games...computer games, Ninetendo, GameBoy...I'm not picky.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

JENNIFER:Amy, thank you so much for inviting me to do this interview. I love Journal Modiste and am so honored to be a featured designer.
