JM: When did you get started sewing and creating?

ANGEL: I have always been a creative person. My first loves were drawing, painting and needlework. As far as sewing went, I hadn’t made much more than curtains for my home. It wasn’t until my girls were born that I stumbled upon the Boutique world, and I am so glad I did. I feel like I have finally found the perfect outlet for my creativity, and it’s very rewarding personally. I grew up watching my adopted-Mom sew and I learned the basics from her. Thanks Mom! My birth-Mom had also sewn a ton for me until she passed away when I was 6. Now that I have girls of my own, I am also finding that this is a way to help me feel closer to her and to kind of pick up where she left off. Sewing for me is a true labor of love and I hope that my girls appreciate what I am doing for them as they get older. My hope is that they will sew for their little ones too someday.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

ANGEL:Before eBay, my favorite job was working at Eddie Bauer in college. When I left I had reached my goal of Assistant Manager. I loved the customer service and merchandising aspects of that job. I’ve been in customer service ever since. Now, I am so thankful to my hubby for making it possible for me to be a stay-at-home-Mom. I love that job most of all!

After my girls were born, I happened upon a M2MG Boutique listing on eBay while searching for Gymbo clothes. When I saw the search terms she used and entered “Custom Boutique” this whole world opened up for me. I was a kid in a candy store and wanted it all! But I also knew it wasn’t in our budget so I spent the next year figuring out how and what to make. I listed my first set in Aug of 2006 and TaDa! Creations was born. I love dressing my girls to coordinate, not match, so I usually end up with multiple coordinating pieces to offer. I sell mainly on eBay and to a few people locally. I also have my appliquéd overall designs available on my friend Kori’s web-site

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

ANGEL:I do remember my first outfit, it’s still one of my favorites. It was a pair of appliquéd overalls, my first airplane design for boys. We went to the annual Air Show here and I had Emily model it which was great fun (shhhh don’t tell her). I think it sold for about $40. I was thrilled beyond belief. I designed it for a 1st Birthday gift for my friend’s son. He’s the cute little red-head at the bottom of my ME page.

JM: How did come up with your name, TaDa!Creations?

ANGEL:I ran several other names past my friends, but TaDa! kept coming back to me because it’s what I always say to myself after I finish a project. I wish it was more clever, but this one just feels like me.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

ANGEL:I am a member of the fabulous group Boutique Hugs & Kisses (search Boutique XOXO). I have been with these talented ladies since May of 2007. I love how well our personalities mesh and the support we give each other. We just have a great time together. Love you girls!

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

ANGEL:Honestly, it’s whatever project I am currently working on. But my first love would have to be appliqué. I free-hand draw all of my appliqué patterns and that’s probably the part I love the most. Sometimes I sit for hours drawing up outfits that I never actually bring to life. I have also recently started doing a lot more hand embroidery which allows me more time away from my sewing desk. This is fast becoming a favorite as well. I love creating sweet little dresses too. I can’t make enough of those for my Emily who always asks to wear her “pretty dress” that Mommy made. Note to self, I need to make more coordinating dresses so Allison can wear them too.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

ANGEL: Well, really it should be how to be more business minded, because I focus too much on just the creative side. I love photography and would like to learn how to take better indoor photos because our outdoor opportunities are limited in MN. And I still need to figure out everything about my brand new camera. As far as sewing goes, I try to teach myself something new with every set I make, to keep adding to my skill level and keep it challenging. Zippers are still on my to-do list and I have a box of patterns just calling my name. I love needlework and would also like to learn smocking as well. Wow, that’s a long list, I’m exhausted already!

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

ANGEL:Any place that has a gorgeous pool, palm trees and an ocean nearby would fit the bill. But I will definitely settle for countless trips to Disney World as our kids get older. We’ve been fortunate enough to travel quite a bit before having kids (Cuba, Israel, Italy…) so I think we’ll save places like Ireland and Paris for much much later. I can’t imagine leaving my kids for that long and taking them with doesn’t sound fun yet either.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

ANGEL:I love spending time with my family, worshiping God at our Church, and hosting our Bible study group. I love entertaining and wish we could do more of that. I’m also a home body and love just about anything that allows me to be creative at home: scrapbooking, decorating, baking, and gardening (the flower variety, Hubby does the vegetables). Oh and just enjoy in general? Root beer floats, going barefoot, HGTV, trips to the Zoo, camping and chasing my girls. Wow! How’s that for an answer?

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

ANGEL:? Thank you so much Amy for this opportunity. I was blown away that you would feature little ol’ me. I thank God every day for blessing me with my adorable little girls who are truly my inspiration and for my husband Dave who is so supportive of my endeavors. Thank you!
