Designer of the Week - Tattered Tulips

This week get to know LaNae of Tattered Tulips. She's from Indianapolis, IN.

JM: What inspired your business name?

LaNae: Whenever I am asked this question, I always wish I had a quirky and cute story to tell about my business name! lol But honestly, I just thought it sounded fun together. When my mom joined me, we changed our ebay id to 2tatteredtulips, to reflect our partnership.

JM: What kinds of things do you make to sell?

LaNae: I love creating girls clothing for my daughter. I feel like I am still discovering my own personal style and therefore my designs range from elegant to whimisical. It varies depending on my mood that day! We are fond of smocked items, hand crocheted sweaters, appliqued jeans, jumper dresses, and twirl skirts.

JM: Where do you sell your designs?

LaNae: I mainly sell my designs on eBay, with my design group, BijouCo. I also have an Etsy store and am one of a select few customs designers sold on

JM: When did the crafting bug first hit you?

LaNae: When I was a young child, my mom owned a smocking and heirloom sewing shop in our home. She was always smocking or creating a new project. However, it did not seem that her talent had been passed down to me, I was all thumbs at sewing. When my daughter was born and I discovered custom boutique on ebay, I begged her to teach me how to sew! We have spent many hours creating together since then, I will treasure those times forever.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

LaNae: There are so many things still for me to learn. Right now I would love to learn more about photography and graphic design, I find both of those subjects fascinating.

JM: What do you enjoy doing when away from crafting?

LaNae: I admit it, I love to shop. I also love to spend time with my family, read, sleep, decorate, and chat with my friends.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

LaNae: Journal Modiste is a daily stop for me, it is truly an honor to be included in the company of all the wonderful designers here.
