JM: Lori , when did you get started sewing and creating?

LORI: I started "sewing" in junior high school, but prior to that was always crafting something. My mother had the biggest influence on me. She did it all from sewing to cake decorating. I credit my sister for getting me started on needlework. She taught me the basics and I was hooked from that moment on.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

LORI:I ventured into selling on Ebay last November, 2005, and don’t currently sell elsewhere. I think I sold my first sewn item on eBay in 2001. I sell to family, friends and many repeat customers. I do not have a website yet, but that's something I wouldn't mind doing in the future.

Before eBay, I worked in a chain craft store and also a fabric store. I also did custom bridal work from my home. I injured my back and that made working outside the home very difficult, so I went back to sewing from home.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

LORI: Back then I was concentrating on Ready to Smock items. It would be a pre-pleated item, and the buyer was responsible for smocking the design on it. Most items would sell for $25 - $30. It wasn't much, but it set up a client base that I still work with today. I'd have to look to see if I still have a picture somewhere. I foolishly didn't take many.

JM: How did come up with your name, Belles and Bows?

LORI:This one's funny! My daughter game up with it. She said for years, that her first born girl was going to be named Isabella. So that's where the "Belle" came in. We added the "Bow's" for balance. Now that she is actually pregnant, she has decided against the name Isabella. Too common she says. LOL

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

LORI: No boutique groups at the moment, but I would certainly be interested, if the right one came along.

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

LORI:Little girly, girl dresses with smocking. I enjoy flower girl dresses. I'm pretty conservative, tending to design more of the classic look, but I am trying to venture out of that box.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

LORI:I would love to advance my needlework skills. I'm fascinated with Brazilian needlework, Stumpwork and Thread painting.

I'd also like to learn more about graphic design. I'm finding I need it more and more these days.

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

Australia and New Zealand. We like snorkeling and would love to do it off The Great Barrier Reef, one day.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

LORI:Travel, gardening, and needlework.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

LORI: I'd like to thank Amy at JournalModiste for this opportunity to tell everyone a little more about myself. It's a great privilege to be named Designer of the Week and I appreciate the recognition.
