1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

Well, I have been inspired to create and design for as long as I can remember. I guess you could say that my mother is the very source of my passion for designing. When I was young I would just sit and watch her create amazing things . She is a fabulous artist, seamstress and painter. With any free time she would teach me something new from a very young age, from cross-stitch, crochet, painting, ceramics & porcelain, and the art of sewing.

By the time I was 12, I had assembled my very own porcelain doll from the pouring of the mold to the handmade outfit she wore. I was also assisting in her regular submissions for doll shows all over California. I guess you could say that creating was a part of our everyday life.

When I decided to make a home with my husband I gave up that part of my life until my youngest daughter was born and I realized how hard it was to find a decent hair bow for babies who were hair challenged. LOL! I started making my own bow bands for her and not long after decided to revisit my love of sewing and the rest is history .;0)

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

I started selling my designs on Ebay back in 2002. When I was part of the group ODOD I sold my designs on that site but currently I only sell on Ebay and Blossom Street. Before I discovered Ebay I worked as an accountant for a Dealers Auto Auction owned by Cox.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

I actually do! It was a little overall jumper that I made with white chenille, and baby lulu fabric, it ended for around $110 and I was so shocked! I do have one picture of my daughter Kiersten modeling it in her room, I guess my choice of backgrounds has vastly improved, LOL!

3. How did you decide upon your name?

I had always heard the expression Cute As A Button and from the time my daughters could walk they were always chasing after ladybugs, that is still actually one of their favorite things to do on a spring day. I thought Cute As A Bug was so fitting, who knew that was about as well known as cute as a button.

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

I belong to Act1 Boutique, former member of ODOD Boutique. The ladies in our group are very understanding, supportive and always creative, they give me so much inspiration daily!

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I love creating any type of dresses from funky, twirly, ruffly and fun, probably because my model, Kiersten, has the most fun modeling in them.

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

I love high quality cottons and vintage chenilles. My favorite chenille is probably morgan jones overall, though I am quite fond of several cabin craft designs. I would have to say that my favorite fabrics right now are imported European fabrics, they have such a different quality and color than anything you can find in the US.

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

I assist with the family business during the week on and off all day so I sew whenever I have time, that usually ends up being at night after the girls go to bed. I am scarily organized, all of my patterns are categorized by type and number, the only time it gets messy at all is when I am cutting.

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

Taking in a ballgame or two, rollerskating with the girls, and spending time with my family and friends.

Anything else you would like to add?

Thank you so much for this opportunity to let me share my life with you as well as my designs. How amazing it is to share my creations with others and be part of their everyday lives as well, it makes designing so much fun!
