1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

I purchased my first sewing machine when I found out I was pregnant with Jason because I wanted to make baby blankets and a few things for his nursery. I took one class to learn how to thread my machine and just the basics. I'm self taught from there!

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

Soon after I purchased my machine, I came across all the handmade boutique items on ebay while searching for items for my son. I could not afford most of the things and was determined to learn how to make them myself! I offered my first design over two years ago and it's been a learning process since then.

I am in the process of starting my own clothing label, also called Bugg Juice. Hopefully it will do well and will debut in Spring/Summer 2006 in boutiques. I'll also have a girls line, called Cinnamon Stix. I will have a website for each, www.buggjuice.com and www.cinnamonstix.com. Both are in the process of being made and I'm super excited to see the outcome!

Before Ebay and designing, I owned and operated a daycare. Once I had my son, I wanted to give him my full attention so I decided to close that business and began Ebaying soon after.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

My first outfit on Ebay was a simple pair of shortalls that had a bug theme. I think they sold for around $42. Thank goodness I do not have a picture, lol!

3. How did you decide upon your name?

I've had a few names since I began but when I decided to pursue my clothing label, I knew I wanted something that represented my son in some way. For some odd reason, he calls his apple juice bug juice instead, so the name just stuck out.

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

I belong to an amazing group, the Pixies. The group was created by my good friend, Liz. She and I met through ebay over two years ago and have been great friends since. She and I shop for fabric together, design together, and have the same goals so it just made sense for the two of us to be in a group together. The other girls in the group are all amazing designers who I've admired from the beginning, so it was a no brainer!!

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I'm an exclusive boy designer, and lately I've been doing allot of outfits but my favorite thing to design is applause overalls. There are so many fun themes to do for a boy and there's no better feeling to see tiny pieces of fabric come together to create a wearable work of art!

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

I like anything out of the ordinary and I really believe in dressing children appropriate for their age, so I tend to use fun, playful fabrics.

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

I sew at night, only because I'm a night owl! I clean my sewing room after each new project, but once I begin a new one, it's a total mess again!

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

I don't have much time for anything extra but I do enjoy spending time with my tiny family. My husband works a lot, so any quiet time we get as a family is well worth the effort. We try have family outings every week. It can be something as simple as going to the park or going away for the weekend, but we all look forward to it!

Anything else you would like to add?

When you stop and think about it, it's amazing how many woman are able to stay home with their children, and get paid for something they enjoy! I'm very lucky to be one of them.
