1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

I am fortunate to have learned from both my mother and grandmother. I started sewing little pillows as a child as my mom sewed. I also remember making little doll house furnishings for my Annie doll (that movie had come out and I was head over heels for Annie). My grandmother is a wonderful seamstress. She made clothes for my mother and aunt when they were kids, and I still have Barbie outfits she made for their dolls. As for creating, my mother would tell you I was born creating things. My husband calls me Holly Hobbie, but I'm not sure he knows that Hobbie doesn't mean hobby. Anyway….

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

I started selling on Ebay in the summer of 2002. Right now, I only sell on eBay, and occasionally take custom work. I have a website that is currently being finished and my plans are to have it so that the customer can buy direct by fall of this year. Before eBay, gee, I can't remember anything before eBay. No really, I had a decorative painting business and worked for two design firms in Atlanta.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

Of course! It was a little dress made from vintage flour sacks. The bodice was chenille and it had a little rose in the center. I wish I had saved a picture of it. It sold for 34.99 and I was tickled pink.

3. How did you decide upon your name?

I started sewing with my daughter Caroline in mind, so Caroline's Closet was just the result of that. Probably not super creative, but it will always be simple and classic and close to my heart. : ) I started Little Boy Blue after Peyton was born and like to make fun sets for little boys.

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

I belong to the most wonderful group of girls-The Hello Collection. We are all very much alike and have similar goals, families and lifestyles. We started it with those things in mind and it's a barrel of monkeys getting to chat with them and sew together. It sure does make eBay fun! I think what I like the most is that we respect each other, our similarities and our differences, and we are always there for each other. It goes way beyond a sewing group.

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

? Oh goodness, I have so many favorites!!! I think I'd have to say sweet, classic little sets with ruffles. I like childlike fabrics and clothing that is timeless. Little pants with apron style tops, sundresses, hats, little purses. Uh oh, that's a lot more than one favorite.

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

I love soft florals, gingham, small polkadots, vintage fabrics and reproduction fabrics. Robyn Pandolph is a favorite of mine.

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

In my sewing closet. It's a little room off our family room that really is pretty much the size of a large closet. I sew at night after the kiddos are in bed and very seldom I'm able to manage a bit at nap time in the afternoon. I actually do keep the fabric off the floor, but it is stacked up on shelves and I do believe it will reach the ceiling very shortly. It is quite possible that one of the stacks will trap me in here.

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

Playing with my kiddos, cooking (when I can manage the time) and vacations. : )

Anything else you would like to add?

Just a thank you to my wonderful customers and to my wonderful friends, Christina, Shari and Marci. Thank you also for the fun interview!
