JM: When did you get started sewing and creating?

FAITH: My real interest in sewing began shortly after the birth of our first daughter. I had sewn a little before that, but wasn't drawn to it as a hobby until I decided I wanted to start sewing for her. My mother-in-law is a wonderful seamstress and when I told her I wanted to learn to sew, she came to visit for a weekend and taught me all the basics. My mom lent me her sewing machine and the rest was history! Since then my interest in sewing has increased tenfold and now it's a huge part of my life. Sewing is my creative outlet and a hobby I love. I would be lost without my machines and fabric!

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

FAITH:: I started selling my designs on eBay in the Fall of 2004. My primary outlet right now is eBay.

JM: What did you do before eBay?

FAITH:: Before eBay I worked in the agricultural finance industry.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

FAITH:: One of the very first outfits I sold on eBay was a red floral set. It had a button-up top and appliqued pants. I think it sold for around $35.

JM: Where did come up with your name, Retro Cowgirl?

FAITH:: In choosing a name for my business I wanted something that reflected some of my passions. I toyed with the idea of a name having to do with fashion, creating or sewing but wanted something a little different. So, I started brainstorming. I love all things mod and retro. The themes, the colors, the styles - all of it. Add to that the fact that I've always loved the western way of life and that I live in Texas and 'cowgirl' seemed fitting. I combined the two and came up with retro*cowgirl and it suited me perfectly!

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

FAITH::I belong to Boutique SUITE. A wonderful group of talented and creative ladies and I started the group earlier this year. I love the wonderful variety of interests that everyone brings to the group. We all have different taste and styles and together we make up a fun and unique group!

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

FAITH:: I have such eclectic taste that it's hard to choose a favorite! I love creating fun outfits with lots of personal touches. Anything cowboy, western or retro themed is also high on my list. Many times the direction I go with an outfit is dictated by the fabric and what feels right during the process. I enjoy creating girl's sets and get inspiration from my two daughters and their very different taste. I also have fun creating little boy clothes with unique flair. When I'm in the mood to mix things up, I create a funky handbag. I love making a statement with a fun purse!

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

FAITH:: The neverending pool of new techniques and skills to learn is one of my favorite things about sewing. I enjoy learning new things and drawing on the knowledge of those with more experience. I love that no matter how accomplished a seamstress you become, there is always something new you can learn and someone new who can teach you.

JM: What was your first job? How much did you earn?

FAITH:: My first real job was working as a secretary/receptionist for my dad's construction business. I was pretty young so I probably got paid in room and board! Honestly, dad did pay me but I don't remember how much.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

FAITH:: I enjoy spending time with both my immediate and extended family. We live close to lots of family and love getting together. I also love to read and when I'm in the mood to get my hands dirty I have fun creating tile mosaic art.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

FAITH::I am so inspired by the wonderful buyers and sellers in the boutique community on eBay. The level of creativity and talent is astounding and I've met some of the nicest people on eBay! I am indebted to my wonderful customers and appreciate those who so freely give their compliments, ideas and friendship. They make eBay a wonderful place to do business! I would also like to thank those who have taken the eBay boutique community to the next level by promoting it through dedicated websites, broadcasts and advertising. These venues are going to bring even more people into the fun world of boutique eBay!
