JM: When did you get started sewing and creating?

KELLY: I created my first outfit for my daughter 12 years ago with the help of my Grandma! After that I didn't sew again for 9 years!!! About 3 years ago I found a pair of custom overalls on ebay and knew this was something I would LOVE to do! Out came the sewing machine and I have been sewing almost every day since!

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

KELLY: I started selling my designs on ebay a little over 2 years ago. It started out as more of a hobby and this has turned into a full-time venture.

JM: What did you do before eBay?

KELLY: I am a nurse in an emergency room. I continue to do that part-time along with sewing and making custom creations.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

KELLY: I started out selling appliqued overalls on ebay. My first design was a pair of beach shortalls and they sold for $41! I was so excited that they sold! I still do an occasional pair of overalls, but have found I really enjoy putting complete sets together much more!

JM: How did come up with your name, Fish Pond Boutique?

KELLY:Well, craven happened to be my husbands ebay id and I started using it to sell my kids' used clothing. I had built up quite a bit of feedback and had many repeat customers with this id so didn't want to start from scratch. When I started selling custom clothing I decided to just keep the id and use the name "Fish Pond" for my items. I now find many of my old customers bidding on custom items of mine and others...I'd like to think I am responsible for some of their bids!

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

KELLY: I am a proud member of Sandlot! I love that it is an ALL BOY group since boy's clothing is my specialty!!! They are a great group of women, each with a unique sense of style. I love the fact that we all respect one another and opinions can be stated freely without repercussions if another member doesn't agree.

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

KELLY: BOYS clothing!!! I like to make WEARABLE items...something the little guys can play in, be comfortable and will wash well! I like a variety of styles and tamper with everything from cute to funky!!!

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

KELLY: ORGANIZATION??? Oh, you mean sewing skills!!! I would love to learn how to draw patterns patterns from scratch, how to use my digitizing software, and all "girly" sewing skills...such as improving my ruffling skills, pintucks, and shirring!

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

KELLY: hmmm...I had the opportunity to tour Europe when I was in high school and absolutely LOVED Switzerland! I would love to go back for a second longer visit now that I am older. The mountains were so beautiful and the people were all very kind!

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

KELLY: My 3 oldest kids are involved in many extra activities...baseball, softball, basketball, football, soccer, scouts...you name it! I really enjoy going to the kids' games and just spending time with my family!

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

KELLY: I feel very fortunate to have been able to create what I would consider a fairly successful ebay venture. More important than that, though, are all of the wonderful people I have had the opportunity to meet thru ebay. Many whom I consider wonderful friends! Also a HUGE thank you to all of my customers!!! I wouldn't be here without them!!!
