JM: When did you get started sewing and creating?

MONICA: I got started sewing when I was big enough to hold a needle and thread. There was always fabric around, and I was always pinning fabric to my Baby Tenderlove to create new outfits. She must have been made of some self-healing rubber, because the pinholes never showed.

I learned from my mom. I was a spanish and mexican dancer. My mom sewed my dance costumes, and I would sit and watch her sew endless amounts of ribbons to yards and yards of fabric. Later, when I taught and had a dance group of my own, she would let me design the costumes. She would then create patterns and sew them. My mom can make anything. She has an engineer's brain!

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

VANESSA:We started selling them this past January 2006.

JM: Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

MONICA: I used to sew for free before Ebay! I am on the costume committee for our church. I honed my skills designing and sewing costumes for various productions that our L.A. based church produces. It never occurred to me that I could sell my designs until I discovered Boutique.

JM: What did you do before eBay?

VANESSA: I worked as a Customer Service Specialist for an armored car company, then later an insurance company. These jobs really helped hone my people skills! I have been a SAHM for the past two and a half years.

MONICA:I've been a SAHM mom for quite a few years now.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

VANESSA:Yes! It was so cute! It was a two piece Valentines Day skirt and top set. No pics though! It sold for around $30.00.

JM: How did come up with your name, Dominga Luna?

MONICA:My daughter had been learning the days of the week in spanish at pre-school. One day, as she was singing "Domingo, Lunes, Martes, Miercoles....." I told her, "My grandmother's name was Dominga." Delighted with my revelation, she started to sing, "Dominga, Luna..." I loved how it sounded. When I ran it by Vanessa, she loved it too.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

MONICA: We have recently joined The Little Darlas. I had been watching it since it started and got on the mailing list. One day, I sent a note and asked them to consider us as a member. I had a feeling we would fit in quite well with TLD. Sure enough. It's an awesome group of ladies. We hope to stay with TLD for a long time. It just feels like home to us.

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

MONICA: I enjoy creating classic and vintage style dresses and skirts. Why? Well, it seems that that's what our customers like, and it makes us happy to please our customers. I like to think about the little girl I'm creating the set for as I sew it. How will she feel when she wears it? Will it be her favorite? How will it look after it's been washed 5 or 6 times? I put a lot of heart into it.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

VANESSA: I would love to learn how to sew like Monica, and become a graphics whiz!

MONICA: I would dearly love to learn how to correctly insert an invisible zipper. I like the clean look that an invisible zipper has. It also has a classic vintage feel to it.

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

MONICA:At the moment, I'd like to go to Europe where I can get my hands on some yummy fabrics!

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

MONICA:I enjoy traveling with my family. I also enjoy, cooking, baking and entertaining.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

MONICA: Vanessa and I are a team and Dominga Luna is our muse. We hope that our customers enjoy the simple stories that Vanessa writes to go with our sets. They are meant to be read while you shop with your daughter in your lap! Dominga Luna's spirit, is the spirit of every little girl everywhere.
