JM: Leslie, when did you get started sewing and creating?

LESLIE: I started sewing when I was 12. My mom sewed for my sisters and I, so it was natural for me to follow her. I actually learned sewing techniques at school, taking every home ec sewing class that was offered from jr high to high school. My mom is such a creative, talented woman and I've probably gotten the creative gene from her. I loved designing fun clothes for my three daughters and now my grands. I sewed, appliqued and smocked most of what my girls wore as little ones.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

LESLIE:I started selling my designs on ebay in March 2005. Before and during the beginning of my ebay career, I homeschooled my youngest daughter.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

LESLIE: Oh, yes! My first outfit was a jumper, dress and pantaloon set I made for my granddaughter for Easter. It sold as a custom set for $48.

JM: How did come up with your name, Gigglez-n-Grinz?

LESLIE:I wanted a fun sounding name, so gigglez-n-grinz was my choice.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

LESLIE: I'm a Lil Pea and love being in this group of talented, supportive women. My daughter Lindsey (lindsey.erickson.designs) and I read a thread on the CBD board about Lil Peas taking applications, so we applied at the same time, knowing what a great group it was. I love the comaraderie, encouragement and just plain fun I have in this group.

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

LESLIE: I have one jumper/jumpsuit pattern that I love making. It's like a blank slate to me and I have so much fun creating with it! I really like appliqued overalls, too, and have done a few pair and have plans for more.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

LESLIE:I'd love to do some applique with an embroidery machine. I've done all of mine free hand and I think it would be fun to try something with a little different twist. I would also like to do some more with photography. I love the creative ways that little models are photographed and would love to do more creative photos for my listings.

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

Right now, I'd like to go to the UK. I have a good friend living in London and I'd love to visit her.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

LESLIE: I love spending time with my family. Our two older daughters are married and each have a little one, so we spend a lot of time together. I also love to read, decorate (and redecorate) my home and shop (but not necessarily in that order!). My hubby and I love to camp and spend time outdoors.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

LESLIE: Although my business is fairly new, I've been so blessed by those I have met through my listings, group and boards. Who would ever know that you could have so much fun at work!

Leslie! How exciting to be the designer of the week! I'm so happy for you! We've missed seeing you and Riley! We'll have to get together sometime (maybe after tax season)! I got an embroidery machine for Christmas, so I'm trying to learn how to use it! It's a Brother 270D, so nothing TOO fancy, but it works for me! Talk to you soon! Say hi to Riley! By the way, I saw Jordan's pic on eBay with the diaper bag -- he's a cutie! Boy, Brighton is growing up!
