JM: Melissa, when did you get started sewing and creating?

MELISSA: I started experimenting with clothing way before I acquired sewing knowledge. In middle school and high school I would cut up jeans or tee's to make it something different. The first article I ever made was a denim skirt from a pair of my favorite jeans that was falling apart. That was, I think, in Middle school. I did all the sewing for that one with the help of my mom standing one room away ready to answer questions. Then after High School I went on to college where I studied Textiles, Merchandising, and Design. That is where I acquired most of my knowledge. Everything after that was trial and error.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

MELISSA: I started selling my designs on ebay when my daughter was about one year old. Before that I didn't sell anywhere.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

MELISSA: The first outfit I sold on ebay was a lounge set. Oh gosh, there is probably a picture on one of my many photo discs around here. It was paper doll themed and sold for about $45.00.

JM: Where did come up with your name?

MELISSA:I chose JAM because there are many meanings behind it for me. First and foremost, J.A. and M are the initials of my family members, my husband, daughter and myself. Next, one of the definitions of Jam is this; Jam :, n. a garment, robe. A kind of frock for children. Also, when I think of Jam I think of something sweet and fun, and of course kids. So this name just fit me.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

MELISSA: Yes, I am a member of the awesome boutique group Ivylane . These ladies are super sweet and incredibly talented. I am privileged to be in their company. :o)

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

MELISSA: My favorite items to create are dresses. They look darling on every little girl and I just love to experiment with different styles.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

MELISSA:I would love to learn how to Crochet and/or Smock. Both are gorgeous and can be incorporated into my sewing. One day I will learn.....oh yes, one day! :o)

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

MELISSA: Okay, I have two places I'd love to visit. I'd have to say Germany first. I would love to visit my extended family and see where my mother grew up. The second is Japan. I have always been interested in the culture and I'd like to meet my husbands family members there.

JM: So what other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

MELISSA:Besides sewing I enjoy just spending time with my family. I also enjoy beading. I love making jewelry for my daughter or myself. When I've been working hard on my orders, it's my time away to do something for "me".

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

MELISSA:I just want to thank you for asking me to do this. It's been fun reminiscing and sharing with the boutique community. :o)
