JM: Jessica, when did you get started sewing and creating?

JESSICA: I started hand-embroidery when I was 7 or 8. My grandma taught me cross stitch and basic crochet. When I was about 11 my Mom taught me how to use a sewing machine, and I started making Cabbage Patch Kids doll clothes to sell to the ladies who worked with my Mom. I made quite a bit of money for a kid!

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

JESSICA:I started listing things on eBay in Feb 2005. I didn't "discover" the boutique world until I had my daughter... and then it took me a couple of months to decide if I really wanted to create a business out of it. So I did!

JM: Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

JESSICA: I've been working on my website off and on for about 6 months, and my launch should be within the next month~ I hope!!!

JM: What did you do before eBay?

JESSICA: I was in the Air Force for 5 1/2 years--an Aircraft Maintenance Officer on F-16s. It was a lot of fun. Then when my husband and I got married, I got out of the AF and started a family.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

JESSICA: Yes, since it really wasn't that long ago. I listed two outfits at the same time: My Bug applique overalls, and a pair of Froggie applique overalls. I have a picture of the bugs (Anna can still wear my sample), no good ones on the Frogs! I think they each sold for around $30. I should've started them higher! LOL

JM: How did come up with your name, HollysMama?

JESSICA:Well, my maiden name was Lambert and my married name is Lane, so it was just obvious (to me anyway) that I should be Little Lamb's Lane. And of course I thought the lamb thing fit with children's clothes.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

JESSICA: I recently joined an incredible group, the Uptowngirls. They were getting ready for their re-debut, and I was invited to join. I got started when a friend of mine, Michelle (little*girls*are*made*of) had seen a lot of my work and was in the group, and she passed my name along I think!

JM: What do you like most about your particular group?

I like the friendship and the mutual support. This bunch of ladies is top-notch on designs and in helping each other out. They have wonderful senses of humor, and always keep me smiling. AND they motivate me to want to be better. I love 'em!

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

JESSICA: My favorite things are heirloom (which I don't sell on eBay, LOL)-- Heirloom allows me to use beautiful fabrics and laces. I love the classic looks, and the fact that they are treasures for generations.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

JESSICA: I would love to take a class on pattern drafting! I change patterns all of the time, mix and match, etc, but to REALLY know how I SHOULD be doing it, that would be great.

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

Oh this is a tough one--can I pick 3? China--to see the Great Wall, Australia--to see The Great Barrier Reef, and Paris--for lace. :-)

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

JESSICA: Buying fabric? Just kidding. I like Tennis, reading, scrapbooking, and photography.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

JESSICA: Thanks so much for asking me to do this! I'm flattered and honored to be interviewed. THANKS!
