JM: When did you get started sewing and creating?

LISA: I wish I could say that I started sewing when I was a child and that my Mother taught me, but I can't. Because my mother couldn't sew a stitch to save her life, I was motivated to learn to sew. I always had the bad Halloween and recital costumes, so I wanted to make sure my girls wouldn't have to deal with that, hee hee (love you Mom).

When I was in the 7th grade I took a sewing class. I didn't sew again until I asked my husband to buy me a sewing machine 13 years ago. I wanted to make stuffed animals for my dog to chew up and a duvet cover for our new bed.

Two years ago, my sister introduced me to the boutique community and it sparked my interest in sewing again. Once I saw that I could bring my designs to life, I sat down at my old sewing machine and started cranking them out. I don't think I've left my sewing machine since. I am self taught, however, my mother- in-law is a phenominal seamstress and I have been known to call on her expert advice from time to time.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

LISA:I started selling my custom designs on eBay last year - April 2006. Currently, eBay is the only place you'll find my creations. Before eBay and kids, I was a flight attendant based in New York.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

LISA:Oh yes, I remember the first outfit I sold on eBay. It was a Snow White twirl skirt set and it sold for $75. I was so thrilled that my first set actually sold. That motivated me to create more and continue selling.

JM: How did come up with your name, LyndsayLeila?

LISA:My selling id, lyndsayleila, was chosen before I started selling custom clothing. I used my id to sell my daughter's used Gymboree clothing. I chose that id since it is the combination of my two daughter's names. As for my boutique name, it is LyndsayLeila. It was chosen because of Leila's sweet dimples. I still can picture in my head her bald head, toothless grin and her big dimples.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

LISA:I am the leader of the group The Lil Peas. In May of 2006, I was invited to join the group. We are a fun, close knit group of friends. I couldn't ask for a better group of talented ladies to be grouped with. Everyone is so encouraging and inspiring and I am so proud to call them my Pea "sistas".

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

LISA:I don't know if I really have a favorite thing to create. I think I just make whatever moves me. One week I might be inspired to make ruffled girly dresses and simplictic pants and tops the next. I love all kinds of styles.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

LISA: That is a tough question to answer. I like to dabble in all kinds of craft things and they seem to come fairly easy to me. I'd really like to explore photography more and also learn the art of smocking. Both produce beautiful results that can last a life time.

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

LISA:Since I was a flight attendant in my younger days, I've been to many, many places. If I could get on an airplane today, I would fly to Italy. I can't get enough Italian food - yummy - and I love the beauty and the history of this country. Oh, and I can't forget the great shopping too.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

LISA: Other than sewing, I enjoy spending time with my daughters, my husband & my dog - Buster.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

LISA:I'd like to add that this has been a true honor. Thank you for asking me to be Designer of the Week. Also, thank you to my family, friends and customers. Without your support I wouldn't be able to do what I love so much - designing and creating!!

Do you have a question that you are dying to ask Lisa? Comment about something she said or designed? Post it here and she will answer it!

I have seen your work on eBay and think you are amazing. I have just started drawing up some designs of clothing I would like to make for my daughter, and would love if I could turn it into something more as I have a clothing & maternity eBay store already. I don't have a clue how to sew but want to learn so badly. Do you have any tips for a beginner like me? I am very creative and pick crafty things up quickly but I have no clue how to sew! Thanks for any advice! ~Jennifer
