English is her second language.

See Yelena's current eBay auctions: Sweet Marina Boutique .

JM: Yelena, when did you get started sewing and creating?

YELENA: My first experience in the sewing was for my dolls. I had beautiful dolls and wanted more clothing for them. My mom was my teacher and she always sewed clothes for me. When we had prom in school, I had the best dress and it was made by my Mom. My friends still remember some of my dresses and when we talk about school years, they begin to speak about dresses that I don't remember even.

After my daughters were born, I began to sew and knit clothes for them. My husband always asked me to knit sweaters for him too. I hadn't much time to make many things as I would like to because I was taught Algebra and Geometry in the High school it lot of time.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

YELENA: I began my business in 2004, when we found that Marina can't go in the day care, because she became easily sick. I left my job (in the this time I had very good job at the insurance company) and decided to stay at home and watch my granddaughter.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

YELENA:When Marina was 7 months old we make our first pictures with set I had created. It sold for $18.00. Marina just began to stand and she couldn't stand straight yet. It was funny picture. I am very glad that it sold and we could something together.

JM: How did come up with your name, Sweet Marina Boutique?

YELENA:I changed my ID in Ebay 3 times: my first name kleo969, it didn't mean anything, it was first thing that came in my head when I had registration in Ebay. I changed this name to "eurodivadesigns" and it wasn't correct too. I like euro styles but I like American style too, so if I do American design it will not sound good with my ID. I changed it on the Sweet*Marina*Boutique and it isn't correct too, because she isn't sweet everytime. For example, if she sees her grandpa, she is a wild child and nobody can stop her! It is just my dream that some day she will be sweet. How all we dream that some day our child will be nice and sweet, possible even it never can happen :-)

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

YELENA: I am a member of boutique group PinPalGals. I found interesting designers and we are so different in style and designs. Our ladies have so many ideas that I never was bored with them. I like our chat, talk about designs, share secrets about sewing and life. They are my friends who have the same hobbies, here I can be understand very easy. PinPalGals invited me for Guest Launch and after invited in the group.

My next group is Free Custom Boutique Models. Here I met many beautiful moms, who will help designers in modeling. I believe that only little cuties can show a set or outfit better. I don't make only little size sets, sometimes I want something different and sew bigger size of a set or outfit. On this picture is little Sarah, she was my model and her Mom, Stacey (4*my*princess*sarah), helped me with modeling this dress. She made adorable pictures. Same way, if designer will ask that Marina was a model we are happy to help too. :-)

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

YELENA: I very much like twirl dresses or skirts, with many ruffles and colors. It makes any girl happy and she will feel that she is a beautiful princess and she very pretty to her Mom and Dad.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

YELENA: Right now I am in the group that is studying instructions about the camera Canon Rebel XTi. I need to know more about high quality pictures for my auctions or for family album. This I wanted to know long time ago.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

YELENA:My new hobby is lampwork beads. I bought many books how to make these beads and received 4 cute beads after studying these books. I was very happy with that because I was very scared to work with fire and now I am not. I will continue to study how make cute beads. I saw these beads in Ebay, they are so beautiful and I wanted very much to know how to make them.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

YELENA: Thank you!

Yelena is great at what she does and she works very long hours but I'm sure it's worth it. I love her work. I hope it's ok for her husband to comment here...

Yelena I love your story! I know exactly what you mean when you say they are not sweet! Just think of her when she's asleep and that will help you remember her sweet!
