1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?
I have been sewing for as long as I can remember. When I was little I had one of those tiny sewing machines (if you can even call them a sewing machine) and I was hooked from then on. My mother and high school advanced sewing class teachers were my mentors and inspirations for my continuation of sewing.
2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?
I have only been selling my creations on ebay for a little over a year and love the people I have met along the way. As for before ebay, I just created for friends and friends of friends. They are the ones that told me to start selling on ebay. Have also designed and made many formal home decor pillows and drapery too, which can also be interesting. LOL
2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?
Yes, and I now call it the miniwhimzy curse LOL I think it is on my me page.
3. How did you decide upon your name?
This started out on a little a whim for me. I love to sew, it is my hobby,it is my therapy too, so to speak. There is a certain designer who shares my initials (and I adore her work :o) and she had my first choice-believe it or not. ;) And I do realize that whimsy is spelled with an s and not a z. LOL But my last name starts with a Z . Hence, the name miniwhimzy.
4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?
Luckily two groups took this crazy gal in. I belong to Wearable and Decorative Art Society WDAS and the Loft. Both allow me to make and create whatever and whenever I want. Not a lot of RULZZZ. Started up in both groups through some of the greatest people I have met on ebay! They are both fun groups...no stress, no pressure!
5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?
As for creating I am all over the place, that is why I need a no rules group,LOL! I love to create an overall a couple times a year, it breaks the monotony of set after set. My style can range from vintage, to shabby chic, to funky, to total whimsical. A lot of my creations are customs that are never seen in ebay auctions.
6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?
I adore the purpleseamstress. That does sound funny, but really she has the best of the best fabrics on ebay that are unusual like me! Otherwise Amy Butler, Miller, Henry, Valori Wells, and the likes. Love 70's and 80's prints too!
7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!
My husband banished me to a section of the house that is now my studio and told me to never let the fabric and thread wander in the common areas again LOL! And I really try to be neat, but it is not unusual to find thread and fabric scraps scattered across the floor at the end of the night. I am extremely organized about my fabrics, threads, and notions. It drives me crazy to have it all scattered about, but that is how it ends up everyday! ( and I end up scattered and crazy)
8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?
That I enjoy or wish I had the time to do? LOL Funny movies, a nice walk with the kids on a WARM day with the sun shining on us, a great dinner with hubby, friends, and family, the simple things really. But, I love going on vacations.
Anything else you would like to add?
I am sure that after reading this you would rather rename me the crazyseamstress! I truly thank you for choosing me to be the designer of the week. How fun and flattering!!!!!
