This week get to know Kate of Little Miss Harper.

JM: When did you get started sewing and creating?

KATE: I got a sewing machine when my daughter was born. That was 26 years ago. I have taken some classes over the years.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

KATE:It's been just over a year that I started selling on ebay. I enjoy the boutique community, and getting to meet other talented designers While the kids were growing up, I sewed dolls for juried craft shows.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

KATE: Oh Yes I remember. It was a summer skirt and top. Done in watercolor pastels. I think I sold it for $35.00

JM: How did come up with your name, Little Miss Harper?

KATE:My mother is from Scotland, and her maiden name was Harper. She had no brothers to carry on the family name. My daughters middle name is Harper, as is my granddaughter's. So "Little Miss Harper" is special to me.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

KATE: I am in the design group DollyLane. I am there because they kindly invited me. I like their energy and enthusiasm. They are all so talented,I was honored to be asked to join.

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

KATE:I do love designing little girls outfits. The process of finding the right fabric and trims. Planning it all out on paper. Its just a thrill when it all comes together.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

KATE:I guess it would be smocking. I do some shirring, but true English smocking is something I really want to learn how to do well. I would love to incorporate that in my work.

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

KATE: I would love to go to Scotland.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

KATE: Life is different now that the kids are grown.

Entering the boutique world has been a huge exciting venture for me. My husband and I "date" now!!! : ) We go to dinner and movies. We travel. I love suspense novels. I love to read just about anything! And when I am in the mood, I love to cook . Spending time with my family is always number one!

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

KATE: I just would like to thank you for inviting me to participate in this forum. I consider it an honor.

Dear Kate, Your ability to capture such simplicity in your outfits that you make is amazing. I look at the cloths I have bought from you and smile when I see my daughter shine when she wears something you have made. Thank you for always embracing the spirit of a child in your designs. :)

Kate, your work is an inspiration. Do you take special orders? My daughter loves bicycles and she would sure love something with a bicycle incorporated into the applique.
