JM: Michele, when did you get started sewing and creating?

MICHELE: My love and passion for putting things together and creating began when I was probably 12y rs old. It was my Home Economics class, I remember walking through the door to that classroom and seeing rows upon rows of sewing machines! I knew from that day, sewing was in my future.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay and do you sell anywhere else besides eBay?

MICHELE:I actually started selling used children's clothes on Ebay 2000 . Then I discovered "Boutique eBay" about a year after, so 2001 is when I changed my name to mudpiesNpigtails and put my 1st auction up on eBay!

JM: What did you do before eBay?

MICHELE: Prior to eBay, I had a small craft fair business selling homemade folk art with my sister and called it Sisterly Love. We also sold to local country folk art shops and furniture stores.

JM: Anything else BE (before eBay)?

MICHELE: I think I actually cooked! And my husband came home to a decent dinner.. hehehe. I have been a stay at home mom for 8yrs now.. after the birth of my son. I got a computer then that had a graphics program on it, and I started to learn how to do all sorts of cool things with my digital photos and I built a family website and discovered I could shop in my PJ's !

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

MICHELE: My first outfit I sold on eBay was a pair of appliquéd denim overalls "down on the farm with Maisy". This was a request from a gal who saw my character Christmas stockings I was selling on eBay and asked if I could make her daughter a pair of Maisy on overalls. I sold them to her for $65 dollars. I then listed a pair and they sold for $158.00

JM: Where did come up with your name, MudpiesNPigtails?

MICHELE: The name came to me as I was watching my children play at the park, and knowing when the day was done,, I would be giving them a bath to get them clean. The word "mud" came to my head as I could see it all over the kids clothes.. and my daughter had the cutest pig tails.. and somehow the two words collided together forming the perfect name for us mudpiesNpigtails. And the rest is history!

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

MICHELE: I have been with the same handful of girls now for a few years... and we formed a group called Gallerybay this past year. This Group is particular well meshed and I like how we all fit with our ideas, shared interests and high standards for quality and service to our customers.

Gallerybay also added a new KWS (key word search ) line for boys called the BOYSCLUB this will allow for an easier search for our customers that have litle boys to shop for.

I am also apart of a once a month launch with the Gypsies, another wonderful talented group of gals. I am also a shop owner of Blossom Street where I share a shop with Srann and LondonMcClain.

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

MICHELE: My favorite thing really is the creating of the original design no matter what theme it is or what it is.. My joy is in my doodling, drawing the design, then choosing the perfect fabrics and ribbons to compliment it from appliquéd denim overalls to two piece appliquéd skirt sets and our hair bows which I branched out this year to coordinate with all my creations!

MupdiesNpigtails branched out from just strictly overalls to much more this past year. We are also the home of the "TEXAS BIG BOWS" that coordinate with all of my outfits. In 2006 you will see an expansion of my boys line "GOT MUDPIES?" in 2006!

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

MICHELE: If I could learn anything it would be to put in to action all the things my mother in law Pat helps me with in organizing and keeping my work space in a way so I can be more productive and keep myself as stress free as possible. My creative side tends to take over and that is when I put in "THE CLEAN UP CALL" to my Mother in Law for some HELP! Big HUGE KISS to our Mi Mi she is the best!

JM: Can you tell us about your first job? How much did you earn?

MICHELE: My first job was a sales associate for a men's store called Chess King. I was a 3rd key holder which was quite a responsibity for a 16 year old. I had to open and close the store along with book keeping, sales reports and making bank deposits. I earned $3.25 and hour.

JM: Was there an embarrassing or amusing moment your remember from that job?

MICHELE:Oh goodness! I can still remember the face of my friend Glenn who I worked with, we closed the store one night and we decided to Go hang at McDonalds only to discover when I dropped him off the money bag was still on the back seat! We both looked at each other in SHOCK.. back to the bank we went! EEEK!

JM: So what other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

MICHELE: My other interests is photography. Taking pictures of my children and others I find great joy. The photo shoots with my daughter as my eBay model and dressing my children and setting the scene for the photos or finding the right background whether its at the beach or in a pumpkin patch I really like to create a whole picture that tells a story just by looking at one single photo. The camera is on me at all times no matter where we go.. you just never know when the perfect Kodak moment will find us!

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

MICHELE: I love that eBAY has giving me the opportunity to express my creative nature and that I get to share this with other people from all over the USA and Europe. When I see a child in my creation and a big smile follows, that there in itself gives me great pleasure to be able to make an outfit for a special day or big event.

I just want to say THANK YOU to all my wonderful customers who allow me to create for their children. And I can't thank enough all my eBay friends who I have met through this experience. And a big hug and kiss to my beautiful daughter Madison who puts up with me and the photo shoots! Big thanks to my new founded models Morgan and Chloe.. you all will be seeing them again shortly.. another big KISS to my son and littl boy model Carson who smiles for me anytime of the day!

Mel, Megan and Sandra.. thanks so much for all the support and laughs.. we really do have a good time on Ebay! HuggZZZZzzz!

hey-- I bought several things from you in the past(Candyland Wizard of Oz, Halloween), but have since lost track of you. We were even going to exchange some Halloween jeans that came in the wrong size, then we remodeled the house, etc, and I just lost you in the shuffle. Looks like you are still going strong! Would love to catch up and see what you have coming up--our big girls are the same age so I assume you are still making stuff to fit them. Can't wait to hear from you. Fondly, Mandy Hellberg (Dallas, TX)
