JM: Kandy and Kacey , when did you get started sewing and creating?

KACEY: I started sewing in June of 2006. I wanted to make some towels with the kids’ names on them for Mallory’s pool party as a party favor, so I asked for a sewing machine for my birthday. My mom has taught me the basics and I have just experimented around myself when I have the time.

KANDY: I was taught by my mother when I was about 11 or 12. I remember very vividly the material I used and the shorts I made myself AND, I remember putting in that darned zipper!!.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

KANDY:We started selling on ebay in September of 2006. We have a website, that was started in November of 2006. \ We just started branching out in to the boutiques as well.

KACEY: Before eBay, I was a SAHM and before that, I worked in the electronics field in sales for 6 years.

KANDY: I retired from Dental Hygiene in 1999. After that I owned and operated an ice cream store at my husband's driving range. I sold it this past August (YAY!) So, now I am pretty much full-time on ebay.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

KACEY:The first outfit we sold on eBay was our “Spooky Cat” patchwork skirt and appliquéd t-shirt. The picture is on our Me page in the Halloween section. It sold for $55 I think…

JM: How did come up with your name, Peek-a-boo-tique?

KANDY:When we were trying to come up with our name, we wanted something that would work for a girl and a boy, as we knew that we would be designing for both. It was a very difficult task to try to find a domain name for our website and an eBay id that both hadn’t been taken. That is why we are peek-a-boo-tique1 on eBay. We originally thought of peek-a-boo-boutique, but that’s a mouth full!

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

KANDY: Yes, we belong to CharmSt. We were invited to join before the group even had a name. A few of them had come together after another group had dissolved and the rest of us were new. We all seemed to click right from the beginning and we can honestly say that we LOVE our group. We look forward to chatting with everyone everyday. Everyone seems to have their own particular style and all of our personalities seem to go well together.

KANDY: Our group is INCREDIBLE, I spend more time laughing when I am on the computer. My DH is always saying "what is so funny now?"

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

KANDY:We like to create fun, colorful things that can be worn for special occasions or everyday. We really like to make little girl outfits, as the fabric choices are geared more towards girls. You have to think a lot harder to make something for a boy.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

KANDY:We would both like to learn how to smock. The heirloom dresses are so beautiful and timeless.

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

KACEY: I would love to go to New Zealand and I would like to see some of the old castles in Europe one day when the kids are grown.

KANDY: I would love to go hike in the Canadian Rockies!!!

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

KANDY:I like doing things like movies and dinner with my husband, having the whole family come for dinner, just little things that revolve around the family. Now that my daughters are grown and have families of their own, it is so much fun for me to have everyone get together. I love to camp, but haven't done that in YEARS!

KACEY: I just started running and taking pictures. I had to buy an extra hard drive for my computer to store all the pictures! I like to take the kids to the beach first thing in the morning when the sand is still damp and the heat hasn’t hit yet. I also like to read, but usually don’t have the time.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

KANDY:Thank you so much for the opportunity to be Designer of the Week. It is such an honor!! Thanks as well to everyone who has supported us along the way. We never could have imagined coming this far so quickly!
