JM: When did you get started sewing and creating?
JANE:
I've been sewing since I was quite
little, maybe about 9 or 10. My mom sewed all my clothes and I just naturally wanted to try my hand at it. I made a
lot of weird and wonderful things for my Barbies and other dolls and for my dollhouse, and then when I was in Jr. High,
I started sewing for myself. I made most of my own clothes through high school & university, but didn't sew as much after
I had my boys.
JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?
JANE:I sold my first outfit on eBay in March 2004. I don't sell anywhere else. Before eBay? I probably paid more attention to my boys, made better meals, and had a cleaner house! But my creative side was suppressed, so I was not as happy.
JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?
JANE: It was a dress set made from vintage rose-print sheeting, which sold for about $40.00. I do have a picture.
JM: How did come up with your name, Prairie Wild Rose?
JANE:
I had this name before I entered
the Boutique World; I used to sell wool sweaters and my sons' outgrown clothing. I love wild flowers, and especially
the provincial flower of Alberta - the wild rose so I chose that as my eBay ID.
JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?
JANE: I don't belong to a group right now.
JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?
JANE:I like to work with pink and I love to make ruffles! Since I don't have any daughters, I enjoy making things that are "all girl"! I also like to do handwork - embroidery and hand appliqué.
JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?
JANE: I would like to continue to improve in the things I already know. I'd also like to learn more tailoring and couture techniques, and pattern drafting, as someday I would like to get back into sewing for myself.
JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
JANE:
We lived in Istanbul, Turkey, for about 3 years. I'd love to go back there for a good
long visit. I would also like to visit the parts of Canada and the US I have not seen, Europe, Mexico, Morocco,
Egypt, India ... there are not too many places I would not like to visit!
JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?
JANE: Reading, knitting, working out, walking, cross-country skiing, playing games with my family, talking with friends.
JM: Anything else you would like to add?
JANE:Thanks so much for letting me share! I love Journal Modiste, so I appreciate the chance to participate.
