1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

Well my Oma taught me to sew every time I would go visit her in Austria for summers.. we started our summer training when I was 6 and I was lucky enough to go visit her quite a bit over the years so she taught me tons. Then after high school I went to Brooks College and after 2 years of playing around I actually graduated with a degree in fashion design.

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

I started selling on Ebay about 6 months after I opened my website in 2001 as I really had no idea what I was doing starting my own business and ebay is a great place to meet people and see how well things are selling. My website is www.babygoretro.com and is my 2nd baby. I put tons of hard work into it and enjoy working on it every week. I also sell wholesale to a few boutiques all over the states and am adding more every month. It is hoping around here but I enjoy it so much.

Before Ebay and the site I worked as a Costume Supervisor and/or Set Costumer for films and television. I spent 7 years dressing the stars and dressing children is definitely more my cup of tea. I absolutely enjoyed every show I worked on and had a blast hanging with the crews and actors...film people are a group unto there own. I feel very lucky to have been apart of the movie-making world but I am also so glad to be at home with my little one and I still can live vicariously through my husband as he works in film..and much better films than I ever did!

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

? Oh gosh..I think I blocked that one out of my memory..it was probably a pillowcase dress with chenille. No clue what it sold for and definitely no pictures! Sorry...

3. How did you decide upon your name .

My husband just threw it out there one night on the way out to somewhere and it stuck. It fit with what I wanted to do which was work with vintage and retro fabrics..I work with all sorts of fabrics now so sometimes it may seem a bit odd when I have a set that has nothing to do with retro but I still love it.

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

Oh I love my group..love them! They are the Betties or Threadin' Betties. I joined after I started chatting with one of the members and I had always loved everything that they listed.. each girl had her own style and they just seemed darn cool. They all are just fantabulous!

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I love vintage styles, designs, fabrics but also play with new stuff as well. My style is ever changing..each month I try to play with a new pattern or fabric. I do always go back to the vintage fabrics and designs though..they are perfect for babies and kids. Function and freedom are important to me when designing because kids should be able to move and feel free.

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers? Why?

Cotton! I love cotton...it just is soft and breath's and is so nice to work with. Vintage cotton is my fave to work with but quilting cottons are amazing too. I adore Jane Sassaman's line and Amy Butler..of course! I also love a million other fabric designers..there is just so many to choose from...I just love fabric in general. It is an addiction for me.

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

I have a great space that I work in..I watch the deer and the eagles when I sew. It has big windows and lots of light and I feel lucky! We just moved and before I was sewing out of my tiny, dark and dreary garage so I feel like I am in heaven when I am in my sewing space! It has been clean now for about a month..I have tons of visitors here so have to clean it up! Keeps me on my toes which is good.

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

I am enjoying living on an island..I adore taking the ferries and discovering little towns here in Washington..they have some super cool little towns in this beautiful place or just walking to the lake and hanging out with Mads while she plays. It is a whole new natural world and a far cry from Los Angeles and I am just enjoying being here and that takes up most of my non sewing time. Oh and I love reality tv so after dark and if pretty much any reality tv show is on..you will find my patootie on the couch.
