Designer of the Week - Luv2sewsmock

This week meet Alison of Luv2sewsmock . She lives in Scottsboro, Alabama with her husband and two children Alex, she is 11 and a son Hayden,he is 5.

See her current eBay auctions: Luv2SewSmock

JM: When did you get started sewing and creating?

LISA: I started sewing when I was a little girl. I made my own Easter outfit when I was 11. My Mom sewed and taught me so much. Now she says that I know alot more than she ever did, lol.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

LISA:I started selling on ebay in January of 2006. I do not sell anywhere else because smocking is so time consuming it is so easy to get overloaded and with ebay I can control that somewhat. Before ebay I did sew for the public, everything from smocked dresses to wedding dresses and everything in between.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

LISA:I do remember the first one. It was a pink with white polka dot peasant dress with a white pinafore smocked with ballet shoes. Believe it or not it sold for $95 and I was hooked.

JM: How did come up with your name, Luv2sewsmock ?

LISA: I created my name as a buyer long before I started selling and I chose it just because it describes me so well,LOL.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

LISA:I am the newest member of Gallerybay and it is a wonderful group! I was in 2 previous design groups that ended up falling apart and so I inquired about Gallerybay because it was very well known and established. I like the people best, they are so very sweet to me even though they don't know me to well yet. I am also in a couple of launch groups, Boutique Eden and Smocking Showcase, which will make it's debut on May 15th.

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

LISA: I guess I would have to say the twirly dresses with pants underneath(smocked of course, lol). Probably because they are so girly and I love ruffles,I wish so bad I would have found this style of clothing when Alex was small.

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

LISA: I would love to learn to make pretty bows so that I could include them in my auctions occassionally. I have tried and was NOT good at it so it will probably never happen.

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

LISA:So many places, how do I pick just one? I guess I would find out were the most beautiful and secluded beach in the world was and go there.

JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

LISA: The internet, watching movies, and eating, I love food, lol.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

LISA: I said earlier that smocking was very time consuming. Just so everyone knows that as a fact.. it takes me about 6-10 hours to just smock the piece that I am using for my outfits, that doesn't include sewing time. I know it sounds crazy but I love to smock so much that I have a hard time designing something that isn't smocked. If I account for my time involved I can safely say that I make very little profit, if any, on my creations, lol.
