Do you have any children, if so what ages? I have three children, Dylan is 12, Colton is 6 and Grace will be 3 this month. They are my joy! Even on the tough days I can’t believe how lucky I am to have them. Looking at their faces is like seeing God smile at me.

1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

I am self-taught but I would like to think I inherited the craft from my grandmother, an excellent seamstress. As a child I watched her sew and always looked up to her sheer determination and talent. As for creating, well I think I have always done that. Even as a child I had a flair for the dramatic and was encouraged by my parents to develop my “eye for art”. Through oil painting lessons and many discussions about color and perception with my father, an artist himself, I grew to love the many faces of art and creativity.

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

Before eBay I worked in the travel industry as both a flight attendant and a travel agent. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay at home after the birth of my second son. When my daughter was born I began to seek out original clothing for her. Unhappy with many of the choices out there I ventured to buy a sewing machine and see what I could do. I fell in love with design and soon realized that I was creating too much for my daughter to wear!
I began selling on eBay in February of 2003.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

Oh yes, I remember! It was a simple vintage pillowcase top and pantaloons. It sold for $40, I believe. I was ecstatic and quickly hooked!

3. How did you decide upon your name?

I have always loved lullabies and wanted a name that would encompass that “feel” yet be unique in and of itself. “Rock-a-bye Baby” was the obvious inspiration, “when the bough breaks the cradle will fall and down will come baby”…I thought, “The sweetest things come…”From The Treetop”. I loved it and it stuck!

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

I am a member of the fabulous Threadin’ Betties. I always admired this outstanding group of girls for their unique design, amazing listings and professional photography. I began chatting with a few of the girls and felt like the Betties would be a perfect “fit” for me. This group is so supportive and I couldn’t be more honored to be in such great company. We share so much more than just design and eBay. I have never laughed at my PC so much! My kids think I am nuts most days! These girls are my friends and the inspiration I garner from them is out of this world!

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I love creating so many things, from simple, fun sets to the very elaborate. My first love, however, is the collaboration of past and present, the timeless design. Antique photographs and memory books have always intrigued me. The clothing moves me and I wonder who this person was and what was their story? My hope is to create something that will be beautiful today and twenty years from now. It would warm my heart to think that one of my designs could survive the years in that way.

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

I am all over the map with fabric types. I love beautiful, classic, unexpected combinations, and comfort is important. We are clothing little ones after all.

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

I have a small corner in front of a large window dedicated to sewing. I love to work in lots of natural light. I like to stay organized but some days inspiration rules and fabric flies everywhere!

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

Interior design, graphic arts, web design and photography are a few of my passions. I enjoy my family the most. I love doing “little” things to make their holidays special and just to give them little memories they can tuck away forever. I want to enjoy every moment my kids are little…that is the good stuff!
