JM: When did you get started sewing and creating?
DAYNA:I dabbled a bit with sewing after
I had to make an apron as a project in 7th grade for my home economics class. My Mom then taught me how to make a
simple baby doll style dress with no buttons or zippers (I made at least a dozen and looked incredibly frumpy for
some time!). Everything I've learned since then has been self-taught. I've always been interested in visual arts
and went to a "fame" type of High School for a year until I became burnt out. My favorite thing to do was collage,
so it's no wonder that I love working with fabrics and putting them together in ways I find visually appealing.
JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?
DAYNA:I started on eBay in May of 2005. I started selling my own creations on eBay a little over 1 year ago. I didn't even know about the boutique community on eBay until I did a search for a diaper bag a long time ago. I found all of these amazing handmade bags and then searched a little further and found all the incredible clothing! It was an "ahh-haa" moment! I've always had the urge to create. I'm so happy I've found a terrific outlet to express myself and share with others who have a similar passion. I don't sell anywhere else besides eBay, but I might consider selling to local boutiques if time and interest permits. Before eBay and before my children were born I was a full-time college student. I recently returned to school part-time to finish my BA in Psychology. I'm taking my last class now and will be graduating in the Spring! Woo-Hoo!!
JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?
DAYNA: I'm almost positive that my first sale was an Asian inspired dress. I don't remember how much it sold for, but I can guarantee there was no profit made, LOL. I no longer have a picture but I certainly remember who purchased it! She still buys from me today!
JM: How did come up with your name?
DAYNA:
I've always loved Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. My first job was working in the
Mad Hatter shop at Disneyland next to the Teacup ride. I would hear the Unbirthday song all day long! I thought
it was a great way to describe how I feel about creating and selling my sets. My unbirthday is a way of
celebrating everyday, espeically when there is no "official" reason to celebrate!
JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?
DAYNA: I recently joined the newly formed Boutique Bijou. . I was impressed with their style and thought I might make a good fit. I simply asked if I could join them and they agreed! What I like most about my group is the friendship and encouragement the members provide for eachother tangled up in all the laughter.
JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?
DAYNA:I LOVE making vintage style cloche hats! I think they are so pretty and my daughters love wearing them.
JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?
DAYNA: I'd love to learn how to smock. It's such a beautiful time-honored technique.
JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
DAYNA:
Ohh, I'd love to go to Spain! One of my brothers took a trip there over the summer and it looks like such an amazing place.
Yo hablo un poco espanol, so that helps. I hope I get there someday..........
JM: What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?
DAYNA:Other than spending time with my family, I love listening to music and going to the movies. I also love photography and look forward to doing photo shoots with my girls for my auctions (although they might not be so thrilled to participate).
JM: Anything else you would like to add?
DAYNA: I'm so honored to be featured here on Journal Modiste. Thank you so much Amy for giving me the opportunity to share with others a little bit about myself and my creations. A big thank you to all of my customers for supporting me in my work!
