Designer of the Week - Wear's The Boy

This week get to know KyleAnn of Wear's The Boy. She lives in Michigan. She has one son Colin-3 years.

See her current eBay auctions: Wear's The Boy

JM: When did you get started sewing and creating?

KYLEANN: I honestly cannot even remember when I started sewing! I am self-taught...when I was a kid I began sewing little pieces by hand...and just moved on from there. When I got my first machine I just learned as I went, and figured things out along the way thru trial and error....lots of error.

JM: When did you start selling your designs on eBay?

KYLEANN:I began selling on ebay in March of 2006....I currently do not sell anywhere besides ebay, except the occasional custom for locals or friends. Before ebay, I would just sew for Colin-I am lucky enough to be a sahm, which I am grateful for every day, but designing & creating gives me a great outlet to still have my own thing, while I stay home to be with our son.

JM: Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay?

KYLEANN: The first outfit I ever sold on ebay was a very basic little 2-piece boys set....clamdigger length printed pants and a matching dyed tee. I do not have a picture anymore...it wasn't picture worthy! I think it sold for $10.

JM: How did come up with your name, Wear's The Boy?

KYLEANN: It took me forever to find something I liked-then it just kind of popped into my head. I always refer to Colin as "the boy..." and a play on words is always fun.

JM: Do you belong to any boutique group?

KYLEANN:I am a member of ODOD Crew ...when my previous group dissolved they contacted me and asked me if I would like to join-I was THRILLED.

What I love most about the group is that is the fact that it is jam-packed with such talented women. I am so grateful to even be there with them...and find myself wondering why they even let me in! They are also a very sweet & helpful bunch ...which for me, is nice to have-there are still so many times when I feel clueless about something, and it's nice to be able to ask for help.

JM: Do you have a favorite item to create?

KYLEANN:My favorite thing to create would probably be the sets I make just for Colin...I like to make things that are a little different or a little off the wall...things that I wouldn't normally think of selling. When you sew for a general customer, it's fun to see what you can come up with that would appeal to a large group of people. When you can sew something based upon a particular child's likes or personality, it's just twice as good!

JM: If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

KYLEANN: As far as sewing skills...I have so much to learn! A specific thing I would love to learn is how to make hats! I am a hat nut, and buy them non-stop for Colin...I believe every outfit should have a matching hat (and shoes), IMO it can really make an entire set. Sadly, my hat skills are lacking....but I won't give up!!

JM: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

KYLEANN:Anywhere warm! Although I was born & raised in the Midwest, I still hate the cold weather. Any place that has a warm beach and lots of sun...I'd stop there first. I would also love to take a trip to Denmark with my Grandmother, and see where she's from...after that, somewhere warm again.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

KYLEANN: When I'm not sewing I love be in my kitchen & cooking...it's not that I'm necessarily great at it, but I like to do it anyway....I also enjoy cleaning (yes I'm serious), shopping (who doesn't?), spending time with family, and spending time with my good friends at JoAnn's-if they don't see me every other day they start to worry.

JM: Anything else you would like to add?

KYLEANN:I would just like to thank everyone at JournalModiste-I am grateful for the opportunity to share a little about myself & what I do.

Also a HUGE thank you to my sweet, supportive husband who allows me to stay home, spend way too much money at the fabric store, and sometimes sew straight thru dinner, forgetting to feed him.

Do you have a question that you are dying to ask KyleAnn ? Comment about something she said or designed? Post it here and she will answer it!
