1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

I didn't start sewing until after I was married. I had my Mom teach me how to sew curtains and bedding for our new house. When I was pregnant with my daughter( and after 3 boys I was incredibly excited to be having a GIRL!) I went crazy sewing up an entire layette for her nursery using a patchwork of velvets and florals. I was pretty proud of how it came out. After my daughter was born I found ebay and saw the most gorgeous boutique clothes. I couldn't afford all I wanted, so decided to try my hand at making her clothing. I was hooked when they actually came out nicely and people started commenting how cute they were! My Mom again was there to help, as she had sewn many of our dresses and costumes growing up.

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

My past career I was a college trained pastry chef. For years I worked in local restaurants making all the desserts and breads as well as creating wedding cakes. After I had children I began painting childrens clothing to sell at various flea markets . I also did crocheted hats with vintage buttons, braiding and boa and sold those in high end boutique stores. When I discovered sewing and ebay about 2yrs ago that became my only venue for selling.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

I think it was my faux fur leopard set and it sold for about $65.00.

3. How did you decide upon your name?

My daughter was always calling all the bugs we saw on our walks bumblybees. I though that was sweet and childlike so took that for my business name. My daughter has been my muse for the whole business from the start.

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

I am a charter member of the MaterialGirls. When I was approached by a couple of other awesome designers about starting a relaxed group that stressed quality and workmanship but wasn't restrictive or overbearing with rules I jumped right in. I am a working mom that loves to sew when I can. So I need a group that I can set my own pace for the lifestyle I lead. I love the gals that are in this group, they are the most helpful and talented ladies ever and make me burst out laughing on a daily basis.

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I love romantic girly dresses and working with vintage chenilles and fabrics. I occasionally will venture out and try a funkier style , but prefer ruffles, lace and pastel shades. I also love making applique overalls for the sheer creativity they offer. Artwork on clothing! I come from a long line of artists and they bring out my creativity.

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

Gorgeous vintage chenilles, linens, laces, tablecloths. I also love so many of the high end cottons like Amy Butler, Kaffe Fasset.

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

I sew when I can get a moment between raising our 4 kids and helping to run our 2 hotels...there is very little time left over! I steal an hour here or there when I can especially night time when the kiddos are in bed. My sewing area is in our bedroom and at times it is impossible to find the bed. I long for a dedicated sewing room that doesn't have so many people traipsing through at all times. It is utter chaos and disaster when I am planning something, but once I know what I need and get the cutting done, I have to clean up before I begin sewing. The mess makes me crazy.

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

Hanging out with my kids and family, taking walks ,visiting with friends. I love to read, photography, and occasional baking.

9. Anything else you would like to add?

I have met so many incredible people on ebay , both customers and designers. I feel blessed to have discovered such a place that allows me to express my creativity and a venue to meet like minded creative and helpful people.
