1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

My grandmother first taught me on an antique singer when I was a child…maybe 7 or 8 years old. We went fabric shopping, picked out a pattern and spent two days at her machine (with lots of broken needles!) creating my first dress in her mountain cabin. She has since passed away and I'd give anything for her to know where I've taken the skills she first taught me. I loved designing as a child and recently found a notebook of my "fabulous" 80's designs I had drawn out! Wow how styles have changed! Lol!

Through the years I have sewn doll clothes with matching sets for my kid sister and other projects, but I picked up my sewing machine the summer of 2003 when my daughter was a tiny baby to make her a pair of toile and chenille overalls. And the rest is history!

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

I started selling the summer of 2003 and have been trying my hardest to get my site going but can't seem to work on it with all of my eBay sewing. I'm hoping to have some OOAK's listed there as well as some great baby gifts….And I can hardly remember WHAT I did before eBay! Lol! I do recall spending 5 years in college (Go Vols!) and working for an internet marketing firm for 3 yrs, but raising my kids, designing and sewing are my true passions.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

Yep! It was my blue toile and chenille overalls! Still one of my favorites! I think they sold for $39.99 and the winning bidder also bought a second pair for her other granddaughter. Needless to say, I was jumping up and down at the sale!

3. How did you decide upon your name?

I wanted to find something that would work for my website and be easy to remember. A dear friend offered TheCharmedChild as an idea! I loved it! I previously sold under *sunny*days*.

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

Proud member of the Awesome Stitchinchicks!!!

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I wish I could say I have a certain style, but I find that too limiting for me. I like to make whatever I dream up…be it Mod or Shabby chic! I think I keep my buyers guessing and enjoy the variety!

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

My tastes have changed so much since I began designing and selling on eBay. I have to admit that nothing is better than sewing with a high quality fabric! And searching for something I've never seen anyone use is my own personal treasure hunt! My all time fav has to be Amy Butler though! And I'll never ever erase the email she personally sent me! Wow! I was so flattered! To think she personally responds to her emails

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

Okay, around here we call it "Mommy's Creative Clutter!" lol! But when I'm starting a new project, I MUST have a neat work space….just don't look in my sewing closet (aka the guest bathroom….at least I THINK it used to be a bathroom!!)

I sew right now in my dining room while my hubby is finishing building my new studio! Yipeee!!

And I have to stick by a schedule for sewing or my family would fall apart! So right now I'm sewing 3 nights a week after my hubby gets home. I try to fit in sewing for myself and my kids during their naptime and any other spare time I might find.

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

I love to knit and just can't sit still without doing something productive. And Yes I tell my hubby….browsing ebay CAN in fact be productive! Lol! Whether it is sewing on buttons or drawing out new designs, I have to be doing something all the time! I love family nights! No sewing or eBay allowed! We love to go to the mountains and I love to read too.

9. Anything else you would like to add?

God has blessed me more than I could have ever asked for. Next to my personal relationship with Jesus Christ, my family is my number one priority and I give Him all the glory for my success as a mother, wife, designer, seamstress, and friend. I'm so grateful to call some of my customers my friends now. What a blessing eBay has been in my life!!
