Have you ever had trouble writing a press release or a product description? I sit down to do just that and don't know where to begin. I put together a paragraph or two and then give up and go look at handmade kids clothes on eBay. Fun, yes, profitable, no. So I was excited to hear about Creative Writing Studios. I contacted Lisa, the owner, for more information.

Lisa and husband Matt live in Wisconsin. They have three kids, a son age 8, and 2 daughters ages 2 and 4.

Can you tell me a little about your business?

Creative Writing Studios is a professional copywriting service. I help create well written, polished content for Small Business Websites. This includes writting the front page, product descriptions, professional Press Releases, print advertising and even Blogging assistance. I also help optimize Websites by utilizing their best keywords and phrases, and also make sure visitors are getting the best possible information about products and services in a way that encourages them to make a purchase.

I also offer, as part of my copywriting business, a free newsletter that is devoted to the Boutique genre and industry. Boutique Up! is a business focused newsletter that offers tons of information on running your Boutique from a small business perspective, offers opportunities to show your products for sale to vendors, features profiles on Successful Boutiques and more. It's free and a really great resource!

How long have you loved writing and what inspired you to want to write for other businesses?

I have been a freelance writer for the past 10 years. I've been a writer since I could first scratch words onto paper as a kid! So many people tend to make the same mistake with their Websites by not having it well written, easy to read or optimized with keywords and phrases. I really wanted to help Moms-in-Business have polished, flowing Website pages, and help them not make common errors that can actually do more harm than good. Because I am a past Boutique owner, I know a lot about presentation and writing about speciality products. And, because work-at-home Mom's are ususally on a really tight budget, I wanted to offer a service that was not only needed, but affordable.

Why would I need a professional copywriter? Okay, that might be obvious, but let me know anyway ;)

Great question! A Copywriter is someone who writes your business materials for you. This can be anything from writing your magazine ads, Press Releases ,to brochures and newsletters. A Website Copywriter, which is what I am, makes sure that your website is Web friendly, really captures your customers attention, and helps turn visitors into buyers. If you are not a writer by nature or training, struggle with what to say about your business or products, or just can't make your website sound great, it's probably time for a Copywriter! Well written material is the key to turning online browsers into online buyers. And with so much competition in the Boutique genre, it's becoming more and more necessary to make yourself stand apart from everyone else.

What is one important thing to remember when creating website content or auction description?

The most important thing to remember is not to fill up your page with "Hi, Welcome to my store". Online shoppers are super-savvy! They require complete information that is presented quickly, is easy to find, and immediately demonstrates the benefits of your product of service. Speciality shops in general tend to add too much fluff and not enough immediate benefit about their products. You should really strive to be descriptive, yet weave in good product information at the same time.
