1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

I have been sewing for just over two years and am pretty much self-taught. I've taken several sewing classes/ lessons to perfect certain skills. I also get help from some close friends who are experienced seamstresses.

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

I have a degree in Early Childhood Education and taught kindergarten and first grade before becoming a full-time SAHM and ebay "nut". I have been selling my creations on ebay for just under a year. Several specialty boutiques in my area carry my designs and I also stay busy filling custom orders that come in through my website,

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

The first garment I sold was a "Cat in the Hat" reversible A-line jumper. The movie had just come out and everything related to cats or hats was selling like hotcakes. I was thrilled and shocked that it sold for $49!

3. How did you decide upon your name?

The name of my business is derived from my girls' names. Since they are my models and the inspiration for most of my work, I couldn't think of any better name...Evy & Grace

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

I am not a member of a group but would love to be! I believe that there is greater ebay exposure for those who are members of a well-known group.

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I consider my style to reflect the unbridled celebration of childhood. I don't really have one particular style of garment that's my favorite, but I do love to take vintage patterns and modify them to create something fun and more up to date. I love looking through the pages of high-fashion magazines and then modifying those looks to create little-girl sized versions of the same. I tend to lean more toward the trendy/ funky side than the sweet, ruffles and chenille style, but I have created some very soft, feminine garments too!

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

WOW! I have a fabric addiction! Anything dramatic and bright. I would love to have a personal contact with the people who design textiles for Oilily!

Vintage fabrics from the 50's through the 70's are some personal those designed by Pucci, Peter Max, etc. I also love Cath Kidston fabrics. Oh yeah, and then there's Alexander Henry and Michael Miller, whose fabric I adore also. I love to mix different textures...silks and tweeds, corduroy and velvet, soft cottons and denim. And I love to create garments with unexpected color and print combinations.

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

I have a private home studio where I do all of my extra room in my home that has been converted to a sewing room. All of my fabric is stored neatly by color so that it can easily be seen...otherwise I might just have to buy more fabric.

My trims and notions are also organized in storage bins for easy access. ( I find that being organized keeps me from wasting valuable sewing time.) When I have firmed up my design and have selected just the right combination of fabrics and trims, that's when the mess happens...loose threads everywhere, needles and pins flying, scissors and seam rippers thrown about. But when I end a sewing session, I have to clean up, reorganize, and run the vacuum or else I can't function the next time...I'm somewhat of a neat freak.

I get most of my sewing done during the school day (when my 18 month old is napping) and then after the kids are in bed some evenings. I wish I had more time to keep up with the billions of ideas that are running through my head. I am forever dreaming up designs...literally! Some nights I design and sew in my sleep! LOL!

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

Aside from spending time with my husband and children, I enjoy weight training, shopping, and teaching Sunday School.

Anything else you would like to add?

I am always open for suggestions for future designs! Thanks for taking the time to learn more about my business.
