1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

My family is loaded with "creative types." I've watched my mom sew for my entire life. She is a talented custom designer and seamstress and I still call her when I have a complicated project and need some advice. My sister is also a seamstress and does the most exquisite hand-smocking I've ever seen. And my grandmother….well….she just did it ALL…..sewing, embroidery, tatting, knitting, crochet… and more. So…..I guess you could say I come by it naturally. I can't ever remember not being around the whir of sewing machines. Although I loved art and music in college, I let the lure of the recording industry influence my direction of study. I finished college with a degree in Psychology and Music Business. I often regret not studying art. Strange….but true.

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

A little over a year ago. I have a local customer base and I do sell a bit on-line and in boutiques and the occasional market. My website is still under construction but I hope to have it operational very soon. I've had careers in everything from Healthcare to Advertising. Most recently, I was a Market Analyst and a Teacher.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

Mand I actually used my baby BOY as a model! I think it sold for around fifty dollars.

3. How did you decide upon your name?

Well….having two boys, I wanted to have a name that would be appropriate for both girl's and boy's fashions.

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

I've been member of the Boutique Queens since about my third or fourth listing on ebay. They're a great bunch of gals and a great support group for each other.

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I love to get fun and funky with some of my local customers and create totally OOAK custom sets. It's a lot easier to do customs when you get to know someone and their tastes. I much prefer creating something from scratch: sketching an idea, creating a pattern, choosing fabrics and trims and then just having FUN. Some of my favorite OOAK designs have never even made it to ebay. Customs are often the most labor intensive but most gratifying pieces of work. I also love vintage and retro fashion. I've always been interested in things past… my designs sometimes follow that path.

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

Now that's a hard one…..I LOVE paisleys and retro fabrics. Amy Butler is a favorite, so is Kaffe Fassett, Rachel Ashwell, (still love the shabby chic), and of course, Michael Miller, Alexander Henry, and Robert Kauffman comprise much of my "staple" stock. My favorite thing, though, is to find a fabulous piece of vintage fabric and let the inspiration begin.

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

With a 22month old boy (who is into almost EVERYTHING), I find that my most productive times are in the middle of the night. Am I neat? Hmm…..I cannot lie…..My workroom is a MESS……and my little boys LOVE to take the elastic, ribbons, trim, etc. and tie them around the legs of the furniture, etc. And one inch elastic makes a GREAT slingshot.

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

I enjoy sketching, writing, reading, lots of other crafts too numerous to mention, being outside with my boys …..but mostly I SEW, SEW, SEW.

Anything else you would like to add?

I would like to thank my customers, past and present, and my friend and fabulous photographer, Elissa, and her precious daughter, Peyton, who models all of my clothes. I couldn't ask for a more special friend or a more adorable model. I wouldn't be doing this without you. I am blessed with a wonderful family, a husband I adore, and two children who remind me daily that miracles do happen.

And thank you, Amy, for journalmodiste. This is a brilliant on-line journal and I wish it continued success."
