1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

I've been sewing for as long as I can remember! My mom used to sew some of our outfits when I was little and I was always fascinated by the sewing machine, cutting out scraps and trying to make things. In jr high a woman from my church had me and two other girls come over and make an outfit, taught us how to read a pattern and use a serger. From there, I read a lot of books and practiced like crazy and the obsession began :)

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

I actually started selling to boutiques first, then to customers who had heard about me from other people and eventually I tried ebay. Right now I have 6 boutiques carrying Katiebugs Clothing in different parts of the US. I sell to customers are far reaching as Australia, the UK, and Japan. Some of my outfits have been also featured in boutique store ads as well. I feel totally blessed to have the opportunity to do what I do :) (and tired!) I ship approximately 20 outfits a WEEK! Ive gone back and forth about hiring seamstresses but until I can gaurantee quality control its going to be just me. I also have a website, www.kateslittleboutique.com

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

My first outfit that I sold was a gorgeous blue chenille with white dress and it sold for 19.99..I was crushed but I had a lot to learn about taking pictures and listing at the time!

3. How did you decide upon your name .

I was playing around with names and my friend made a logo for KatieBugs and I just fell in love with it!

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

I'm an extrememely proud member of the YaYas, I feel like I worked really hard to get here. I remember seeing their stuff listed and saying, Im going to get into that group one day!! Several weeks ago I was invited and this is just the kindest most supportive group of women and I consider them all family!

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I love creating oufits in the style of something out of the ordinary, pinstripes and a tie on a baby girl, tuxedo stye overalls. I dig through fashion magazines and am inspired to recreate them in a style for children, I have tons of ripped out pages for inspiration.

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers? Why?

I really love the michael miller fabrics, but my favorites are the fabrics with texture..I love velvets, stretchy fabrics, satin, chenille...the more texture the better!

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

I have taken over one end of the house! Its a pretty big room and my awesome husband hung shelves, made an L shaped work space, a portable closable closet, a tv and mp3 player...etc. You name it I got it in that room! Its my favorite room in the house. My workspace is a mess while I am creating, but its an organized mess. But I keep it pretty clean because I don't have a door and I don't want the kids to wander in and get to my sissors!

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

Spending time with my family, being outside and watching movies with my hubby.

9. Anything else you would like to add?

All of the ebay boutique designers, every single one deserves some recognition. These are the hardest working women around. Staying up until all hours of the night and generally most of us do not get paid for the amount of time we put into our work, but we do it anyway becuase we love it, we couldn't stop if we wanted too! Its really a fabulous job to have and I am grateful for every minute of it :o)
