1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

I have been creating like this since I was very little. I had formal design training at the fashion institute of design and merchandising right out of high school. But when all was said and done. I know I have learned the most from my mom and everyday trial and error.

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

I started selling my designs on ebay in 2001. I thought I could sell a 12 month pair of pants since that was what fit Mae at the time and that would be it. People wanted other sizes right away. And now look at where the ebay boutique world is. Truly amazing.

I am in the process of starting another website and have always sold to local and online boutiques.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

I have been around for a pretty long time! When I started, there was not the elaborate designs or groups you see today. Here is a picture of my first little toile pants. They were a hit. I must have sold 20 pairs. I think I sold them for around 12.00 - 18.00 per pair. They were all auctions then.

3. How did you decide upon your name?

I knew it immediately. I had wanted to name my daughter Lola Mae and couldn't get her dad to agree on that one with me, so when it was time for a business name, well I had no other choice. I have loved it ever since.

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

Well. I belonged to the stitchinchicks for nearly 2 years, which was life changing. I met so many truly inspiring and nurturing women. Many of us even met up on a trip to Atlanta last summer.

I currently belong to a new group of designers. Newly named by our customers, StudioE. This group has quite a few designers who I am have know for years now and consider to be wonderful friends. What I love most about this group is the willingness to help each other so that we can all be successful.

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

Anything with fabric! My mind never stops. I love when I can see the finished product on my daughter. That is the best. I am doing totes for mom's and daughters right now which is a ton of fun, but I will never stop designing little girl's clothes.

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

This changes as I do. Right now I love bold and bright shapes on fabric. Similar to what many of the European designers use. And then to toss them up in ways you might not expect to see them. Retro is one of my favorite trends for today, but eye catching florals are the ultimate.

Excellent quality quilter cotton is the best to work with for me, but I like to experiment with silk, lace, fleece, trims, beads. I love so much.

Kaffe fassett, amy butler, Michael miller and American folk and fabric are some of my most favorite designer lines.

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

Oh, sore subject. I have no designated home for me to sew and it makes me crazy. Right now I sew in the dining room or anywhere I have a spare amount of space. I am not, not neat. I wish I was. But it is just more or less who I am.

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

I feel like I am on the actors studio answering these questions. Pretty funny.

Designing jewelry, oh, I used to be a chef, so cooking and baking are close to my heart. Now, especially like cooking with my daughter. Did you know that there are little yellow beans in green beans mommy? I always learn from her. Decorating my home. I have a very eclectic style so anything goes. Thrift shopping too, when my sister is home form college ~ we usually take a day and check out our favorite stores And shopping for fabric. I love that.

Did I mention tivo, I love love tivo!

9. Anything else you would like to add?

Thanks for asking me! I feel very honored.
