Designer of the Week - Little Puddleduck

Name: Lindsay

Where do you live: We live in a little town in Northern California. It's in the Motherlode region, so it's very historical and quaint. The population is also REALLY small, so everyone knows everyone else, and everyone else's business... :)

How old are you? 29

Do you have any children, if so what ages? We have three. Zane is almost 4, Tatum is 2, and Wyatt is 10 weeks old.

1. When did you get started sewing and creating? Who taught you?

I learned to sew from both my mother and grandmother, starting at around the age of 7. I think I got interested because I wanted to make clothing for my Barbies. I used to cut up my mother's fabric scraps to make their dresses. (They didn't look much like dresses....just scraps of fabric with arm and leg holes....ha..ha...)

2. When did you start selling your designs on eBay? Do you sell anywhere else besides eBay, if so where? (example, web site, local boutique) What did you do before eBay?

I started selling on ebay shortly before our daughter was born. I don't sell anywhere else but on ebay.

2a. Do you remember the first outfit you sold on eBay. Do you have a picture? What was it and what did it sell for?

I really can't remember! Isn't that awful? I think it was some sort of fall chenille set, but I'm not sure....

3. How did you decide upon your name?

Our oldest was really into animals and animal noises around that time. Especially ducks! So he was "quacking" a lot. It just sort of popped into my head as a result.

4. Do you belong to any boutique group and if so which one? How did you get started in that group? What do you like most about your particular group?

Not a this time.

5. What is your favorite thing to create? (example: vintage style dresses, totes, overalls, etc) Why?

I'd say all the above.... except for overalls. I absolutely love applique overalls, but they're SO time consuming to make! I think they require a LOT of time and patience, which is something I don't have....

6. What are your favorite types of fabrics or fabric designers?

I really like 30s and 40s vintage reproduction prints, Amy Butler, Moda prints -- I have a lot of favorites!

7. Where and when do you do most of your sewing? Are you neat about it or do you have fabric covering the floor!

I have a small sewing studio in our home where I do all my work. I usually do my cutting on the floor in front of the TV after the kids have been put to bed. It's usually not safe to cut anything out when they're awake. They're too curious! I used to sew late at night as well, but that's changed since Wyatt arrived. Now I usually sew in 10-20 minute bursts. If the kids are napping, or watching a movie, I'll work on an outfit. I'm still trying to figure out the whole "third kid" thing....

8. What other things do you enjoy besides sewing?

I really like spending time with my husband and kids. He's a teacher, so he's home early every day, which gives us a lot of time together. We also live close to my family and my husband's so we spend a lot of time with them as well.

I'm also a SERIOUS movie-a-holic. I've seen just about everything! Tuesdays are my favorite day of the week! New movie release day at the video store! Yeah! :)
